OZZY-TEXAS's Story
*PETFINDER INQUIRIES WILL NOT BE ANSWERED. PLEASE COMPLETE OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AFTER READING HIS FULL ADOPTION LISTING. THE ADOPTION APPLICATION IS LOCATED ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application

Meet Precious Ozzy-Texas, a 1-year-old male 13 lb. Mini Goldendoodle, who is in an IDOG foster home near Houston, Texas.

*Please read ALL the information in Ozzy's listing before applying to ensure you understand what he needs to be successful in his new home.

*Please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL into your browser).

*If you completed an adoption application in the last 6 months & would like for your application to be considered for Ozzy, please email us at rescue@idogdoodlerescue.org.

*You must complete our adoption application fully. If you choose not to answer all the questions in the application, your application will not be considered. We will review your application & email you if you made our short list of applicants for him. Please respond within 24 hours if you receive an email from us about making our short list.

*You can check the status of his adoption at https://www.idogrescue.com/adopt or any of our social media pages. We will change his status to adopted when he is adopted.

*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.

*You must be approved to adopt him before we will schedule a meet & greet. We do not transport our dogs.

*AGE: 14 months old (born December 2024)

*WEIGHT: 13 lbs. He’s a little guy!

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence and yard are required as we feel this would help set him up for success. No electronic/invisible fences, or e-collars will be allowed.

*COAT TYPE: Ozzy’s coat is a gorgeous curly, low-shedding Poodle coat . He will need regular brushing and grooming. You should be prepared to have him groomed regularly (every 8-10 weeks) with an estimated cost of $120/groom.

*ENERGY LEVEL: medium energy; if he has his preference, he will choose to sit next to his favorite person all day!

*DOGS: Ozzy enjoys playing with small/medium sized dogs. He does great with big dogs too but they do make him nervous until he realizes they aren’t a threat.

*CATS: unknown; he has had no exposure to cats while in his foster home.

*KIDS: Ozzy needs time to warm up to new people, kids included. There is not a mean bone in his body, he is just afraid. For this reason we think a home without younger kids would be best for his success.

*CAR: Ozzy is nervous in the car and he doesn’t love being in it. We think his world was likely small before he came in to IDOG. We think with a little positive reinforcement and continued exposure to car rides (going somewhere fun!) he will likely outgrow this. He has gotten sick in the past but has not when he was crated while in the car when his foster family took him for 2 short trips.

*CRATE: Yes! Ozzy is crate trained and willingly goes inside for feeding and down time. He has been crated for up to 8-9 hours (at night) at a time with no issues and sleeps quietly. He goes in his crate for 2-4 hrs during the day when no one is home. He will need an adopter who is willing to use the kennel consistently and continue building his confidence. He will pee or poop inside when I leave him. If I go to the bathroom or another room and close the door & don’t let him in with me he will pee or poop within minutes. Even after being outside right before & other people still in that room with him; we think this may be anxiety. He is being crated when his foster mom needs to separate from him. His adopter needs to be aware of this & can use the crate to allow that space.

*HOUSE TRAINED: Ozzy is almost there, just needs a little work and positive reinforcement. His foster believes his accidents are due to his separation anxiety. He is crated when she needs to separate from Ozzy and he won’t potty in his crate.

*LEASH: Ozzy would thrive learning more leash manners & confidence. He does okay on the leash and doesn’t pull because he is scared but he is all over the place! He needs to learn walks are fun.

*AT THE VET: he did well at the vet; he was just nervous. We think with continued exposure to the world he will improve.

*AT THE GROOMER: He has had 3 baths while in his foster home and did great. He doesn’t love his head getting wet but tolerated the dryer while he was held close. His prior owner said the groomer recommended pre-medicating him due to his nervousness.

Precious Ozzy is a 14 month old male Mini Goldendoodle who weighs 13 lbs. He is a little guy! He was surrendered by his elderly owners due to their declining health. They loved him, but weren’t able to give him the active, social life he deserves. Because of that, Ozzy wasn’t socialized much during his first year and is still learning that the world isn’t so scary.

He is very shy and timid at first. It took him about 24 hours to fall in love with his foster mom, a few days to accept his foster dad, and he’s still warming up to the kids (though he now allows gentle pets once he realizes they’re safe). He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body — he is just afraid as this is all new for him.

Ozzy is the definition of a “Velcro dog.” He picks his person and LOVES them hard. He wants to be by your side at all times and thrives on closeness. Because of this, he does have some separation anxiety and will need an adopter who understands that consistency and reassurance are key.

Ozzy:
• Does great in a crate at night and when we leave
• Will need continued reinforcement with house training
• Has done wonderfully with all the dogs coming through my home (especially small dogs)
• Is nervous at first with big dogs but warms up
• Is just now discovering toys — and still figuring out what they’re for

Ozzy would do best in a patient, understanding home — ideally with another small to medium-sized confident dog to help show him the ropes. He needs someone willing to use his crate consistently and continue building his confidence.

He has SO much potential to be the perfect little companion. He just needs someone willing to invest the time and love to help him bloom.

If you’re looking for a deeply loyal, devoted little shadow and are willing to help a shy boy grow into his best self, Ozzy is your guy!

Adjectives that describe Ozzy:
*Shy
*Curious
*Velcro
*Anxious
*Nervous with new situations
*Loving
*Loves Attention
*Energetic
*Snuggly
*Affectionate

Activities that Ozzy enjoys:
- snuggles with his person
- still learning to play
- playing with other dogs

A few ‘needs work’ items for Ozzy:
Ozzy would thrive in a home with good boundaries and basic training
He will need reinforcement with house training and separation anxiety.
An adopter(s) who is willing to socialize him & work with him on trusting people.

Ozzy is neutered, microchipped, current on core vaccines, dewormer, and heartworm/flea tick preventives. He is heartworm and fecal negative.

ADOPTION FEE: $550

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies & highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting & expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board & train costs, medical/health issues & surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees & our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.

TO APPLY FOR OZZY-TEXAS, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application
