OZZY's Story

Who is ready for Ozzy? He came to us as a stray and went unclaimed. He is a compact but muscular Australian Cattle Dog, also called Blue Heeler. ACDs like Ozzy have immense work drive and excel at controlling and, of course, moving livestock. Their boundless energy and supple gait make them excellent running partners. He has been fully vetted, neutered and is recovering in his foster home with other pup pals. Ozzy is about 9-10 months old and rings in at a healthy 37 pounds! He has already met a few other dogs and does well. Ozzy likes to nip at his playmates’ legs to encourage them to get moving, and once they do, the race is on! A nice big yard will be best for Ozzy, as well as older children that he won’t feel obligated to herd.
He has seen cats at the shelter, but not officially cat tested. He’d likely do well with a dog-savvy cat that won’t run. It is important to understand the breed. If an ACD isn't challenged, he easily becomes bored and gets into mischief. It is recommended that ACD owners participate with their dog in some work, sport, or regular exercise to keep him mentally and physically fit. Since Ozzy is still a puppy and we are unsure of his beginnings, some basic obedience training is highly recommended. There is no doubt that he will respond positively to the structure and listens well. Ozzy is familiar with a crate but would surely prefer to sleep with his friends – whether canine or human.
If you would like to meet Ozzy, please submit a completed application from our website or you can stop in during open hours to receive a paper copy. He is so ready to start his new life!
