Otto's Story

OTTO is ready for his forever home. Fun loving and dog friendly, Otto is approximately 16 months old, microchipped and neutered and fully vetted and on preventatives. He has an active play style and likes the company of other dogs, while he is not a rough and tumble guy he is persistent. He can be called of but will go back for more of a dominant play style with smaller dogs. He is crate trained and generally good in the house, no accidents and let's you know he needs to go out, he is learning kitchen manners. He rides well in a car and wants to bond and loves see what you are up to and if it is something he can participate in. At his foster home, he would play and then settle. Here at the rescue, Otto has had harder time settling and we believe it is because the environment is too stimulating for him. That’s understandable, being around many rescue German Shepherds can be a lot of energy. Otto is going to spend a little time with our wonderful trainer Rick Shilling from Detection Dogs USA LLC help focus his attention, hone his obedience skills and build some confidence with the outside world.

When Otto arrived we learned how truly skinny he was, (one of the thinest dog ever to come into the rescue) under his big fluffy coat. Getting him neutered, caused him to lose his coat which is common, especially in long haired GSDs, so we can't wait to see how magnificent he will look with his restored strong body and thick, luxurious coat. The transformation Otto is under taking to become the big and strong boy, confident boy is so special and exciting to us because he truly has the most beautiful nature and innocent, loving spirit.

We want so much to find him his perfect match and forever home. He has so much love to give and is such a great guy.

Otto has a unique head tilt and a hyper metric gate. We had a neurological work up done on him to make sure he got all the care he needed and our vet told us he was born this way and is in every way perfectly healthy. He is a wonderful boy who will thrive with one to one interaction in a loving home.

Please reach out if you think Otto is your perfect love match!

If we have any trouble contacting your references, we will reach out to you. Step 4 If all goes well in step 2, you will be pre-approved to adopt and move on to our placement team! Our placement team is dedicated to helping you meet the perfect dog. That may be the dog you see being promoted or it may be another dog that we feel may be a better fit for you and your family and lifestyle situation. The dog you are initially matched up with you may be one of our available dogs, or a dog that may be in a partner rescue that we work with, (and we will work on your behalf to get the dog for you from the rescue) or a dog that we will go out and find specifically for you. This is a unique service that we offer and have been very successful at achieving because we rescue dogs from all over the country and we really know our dogs given that we have all dogs evaluated prior to rescuing them. Step 5 Working together with the prospective adopter, when we have collectively decided to that you are qualified to adopt one of the dogs, we will complete a home visit (which also may be conducted at the time of the meet and greet, which will take place at most times the adopter’s home). An experienced volunteer will come to your home and meet with you and your family, we require all family members and animals living in the household to be present. We complete a check of the home, a property and fence check, as well as discuss GSD education. In some situations, we may require a home visit before pre-approval, however this is only for certain cases. Step 6 If you are selected to have a home visit prior to meeting, after your home visit is complete a decision will be made on your adoption status. If you are approved to adopt and the home check is to be performed at the time you will be meeting the dog you have worked with placement to select! Step 7 A detailed contract will be provided to the adopter and must be completed prior to bringing the dog into your family. The fee for the dog is actually is a contribution to repay just some of the expenses associated with the dog and is discussed specifically and dependent upon each individual dog.
