Otter's Story

𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱: 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝗢𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.
Our friend Otter is looking for his furever home with Experienced Scottie Owners. This handsome heartthrob needs a very special home and here at Wescue, we are committed to finding it.

Otter is 4 years old and has already lived in two homes before coming to foster care. He is a very sweet boy when handled properly by people who understand him and his needs.

Otter loves to play, especially with a squeaky ball. He will let you throw it for him until your arm falls off and then will come running for more. If you’re not available to play with him, he will happily entertain himself until you are ready for more.
Otter also LOVES walks around neighborhood and adventure walks at the local nature preserve.

We didn’t see any issues with Otter at all until we visited the vet, where he flipped a switch and we saw a side of him that we had not seen before. Fortunately, one of our most experienced volunteers had taken him and was able to get him outside, calmed down, and muzzled so he could be examined safely. After the appointment, she took him on a special adventure in a nearby park so that he could have a good association with a vet visit.

It appears from his previous records that vet visits have always been extremely stressful for Otter. It also appears he had not been to a regular groomer, but rather had been sedated and shaved at the vet. Since he was in need of a grooming, we decided to do the same this time. Otter’s new owners will need to work with their vet to find a plan that works for him and the vet staff to make his vetting and grooming experiences easier on everyone going forward.

The next issue we saw was hats: when a volunteer Otter loves entered the house wearing a ball cap, Otter went nuts! Wanting to know if that was a fluke, we’ve tried several times approaching him (in a safe manner) with and without hats. Each time he would bark like crazy at someone wearing a hat (including a hoodie) and calm down when the hat or hoodie was removed. So if hats are a must in your wardrobe, Otter isn’t the guy for you.

Age: 4 years old
Weight: 24 lbs
Dogs: Ok
Cats: unknown
Children: no

Otter has been vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. His adoption donation is $500 and includes, 6 months’ heartworm preventative, prepaid lifetime premium microchip registration, and safety harness

If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting Otter, please apply online at wsrh.com

Please do NOT send inquiries via Adopt A Pet or PetFinder as we are a small rescue and cannot handle a large number of inquiries. If you have a specific question, please email us at westiehouston@gmail.com but in order to be considered for adoption, you must complete an application.

All dogs are available until “Adoption Pending” is noted next to their names.
