Oso's Story
Meet Oso! This 8 pound two-year-old long hair chihuahua mix found himself without a home when it was discovered that his home had more dogs than they were allowed to have. Oso found himself scared and alone in the shelter. When the shelter asked Wonder Pets Rescue if they had an available foster, we happily said yes!

In his foster home, Oso has been a little timid, but with confidence-boosting sweet words and treats, his sweet and gentle personality has been able to shine through. Oso knows how to sit for a treat, dances for joy at mealtimes, does great with other small dogs and cats and enjoys walks (if you are willing to carry him a little bit, too). He is a little more cautious of larger dogs but does very well if they are kind toward him. We believe Oso will be a wonderful addition to a home looking for a little sweetie who loves to be with his people most of the time, and may even enjoy playing with another small canine companion.

In his foster home, Oso has been able to relax and flourish. Oso’s ideal home would include patient, gentle people who are willing to give him time and space (and goodies) to learn to trust them. When friends come to visit, he needs some time to warm up, along with a few treats. Once he has learned to trust a new person, he will approach and let them pet him or he will sit happily for a treat. He enjoys snuggling with his people. Cheese is one of his favorite treats, along with freeze-dried beef liver and his greenie that he has in his kennel at bedtime. Oso has learned to hang out in a kennel at night, or when his foster family is away. Oso has gained confidence by going on regular walks and is perfectly behaved walking past other people or animals but does not seem to have high energy needs. He will occasionally ask to be picked up on his walk, and who can resist that “oh-so” adorable face? Oso is generally quiet but will bark if he is unattended and sees a stranger walking past his home. Oso is moderately well potty trained, with some marking behavior that will need to be watched.

Oso has a vague non-damaging bite history that has been reported to us. The circumstances around this have not been able to be replicated in his foster home (additional details can be discussed with potential adopters). He has shown signs that (like many small dogs), Oso may nip if he is cornered or forced to be touched by someone he does not trust yet. He may also tend to guard his property from strangers if his people are not around. Oso was compliant with wearing a muzzle for a vet appointment and did not show any sign of nipping at the vet. Even though further bite risk is extremely unlikely, Oso would not be appropriate for a home with small children, due to his small size and timidity.

Oso is neutered, microchipped, wormed, and current on routine, bordatella, and rabies vaccinations. His adoption donation is $600.

If you have a kind and gentle nature and are looking for a little sweetheart to welcome into your home, please complete an adoption application right away!

Please go to www.wonderpetsrescue.petfinder.com to complete an adoption application, no phone calls please.
