OSCAR - dog & cat friendly's Story

Email houseofpoochie@hotmail.com to inquire further or request an application form.

Oscar is approx 2yr old neuteted, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped - fully housebroken.

He is an affectionate little guy who came from Costa Rica and has made much progress adjusting to home life considering he was found on the street in rough shape most likely born on the street or dumped.

Oscar has blossomed into a loving companion who enjoys giving kisses, chasing squirrels, going on long walks, and tagging along for car rides. He is generally low energy indoors, but after a good walk outside he loves to burst into a short episode of zoomies and show off his playful side. He is still learning the concept of play and has recently discovered that toy balls are his favourite.
He will resource guard and has bitten once due to resource guarding therefore training is mandatory.

He has been living in a home environment and has done very well with routine and structure. Oscar is crate trained and has been working through separation anxiety with patience and consistency. He is food driven and loves treats and snacks. With continued positive reinforcement and confidence building, he will continue to make great strides.

Oscar does best with calm handling and clear boundaries. He does show signs of resource guarding, and if he doesn’t like something he will warn you by growling so he would thrive in a dog savvy, adult only home with someone who understands canine communication and is committed to ongoing training. . He has lived peacefully with 3 dogs and cats in the past and would do well with another dog in the home. It would be a major.

He understands “ven aqui” come here in Spanish, crate, sit. If you want him out of a place he shouldn’t be, he responds to “afuera” meaning “out” in spanish.

If he sees people outside he’ll whine because he wants to say hi to them. He’s not super approachable if a random dog approaches him outside, so somewhat reactive to dogs he isn’t familiar with. We like to give him space when we take him on walks.

Oscar is a sensitive, loyal dog with a big heart. In the right home with patience, understanding, and consistency, he will be a deeply loving companion.

Thank you for considering adoption. It saves lives!
