Oscar's Story

This darling boy is named Oscar. Sadly, at just one week old, Oscar was found abandoned in a trash can- an unthinkable start for such a special little pup. But one person’s trash is another’s treasure, and Oscar is truly a gem in the making. And this Oscar is certainly no grouch. This little miracle pup was lovingly bottle-raised in his foster home and surrounded with endless care and affection. While nothing can truly replace the comfort of his mama and siblings, SCGRR made sure he got the very best possible start in life. Now, we’re searching for a special family to complete his incredible rescue story.

Now 13 weeks old, Oscar is a confident yet cautious puppy who is thriving in foster care. He’s dog-friendly, well-socialized, and full of classic puppy joy. He’s the kind of pup who will make you laugh with his goofy antics and melt your heart with his sweet snuggles. He’s growing fast and already weighs 25 pounds at just 13 weeks, so he’s sure to be a big boy! As Oscar has grown, it’s become clear he’s not a golden retriever, but his heart (and his fur) is just as golden, and he’s truly a one-of-a-kind pup!

Oscar sleeps through the night (10pm–6am) in his play pen. He has excelled at potty training and is almost completely housebroken. Since he is still a small pup, he does need occasional reminders to go outside. He keeps his pen spotless. New environments can be confusing for young puppies, so his adopters will need to be committed to continuing his house manners training. He’s incredibly smart and eager to learn and is ready to learn about all of the new things his forever family wants to share with him. He loves toys and has been trying his hand at agility with his foster sisters. Oscar is a blank slate full of potential. With consistent training, love, and patience, he’ll grow into the most loyal and loving companion. If you’re looking for a smart, fun, and affectionate puppy to grow with your family—Oscar just might be your perfect match!

Oscar will be ready to explore the world very soon, but since he is still completing his vaccinations, his adopters must take precautions to prevent exposure to canine viruses until his vet gives the ok (about three more weeks). When adopting Oscar, his new owner will enter into a contract committing to continue his vaccination series and to have him neutered within a specified timeframe. Such agreements are common in pet adoptions, especially when animals are too young or not medically ready for neutering at the time of adoption. These requirements ensure he grows up happy, healthy, and helps us do our part in responsible pet ownership. Note: Because puppies are too young to be spayed or neutered before adoption, we place them in their forever homes early and ask adopters to complete the procedure at about six months of age. We collect a $500 deposit, which is fully refunded once the puppy is spayed/neutered — and we also reimburse the cost of the procedure (up to $500) plus the cost of the required DHPP and rabies vaccinations.

-My Ideal Home-
Oscar would fit well into a variety of homes. His current foster home includes two kids, ages 10 and 13, and he absolutely adores their energy and enthusiasm. Although Oscar loves children of all ages, he would probably do best in a home with older kids, as he’s still quite mouthy and his puppy teeth are super sharp. He could benefit from an adopter who is patient and ready to guide him through this stage. Additionally, he is accustomed to having people home throughout the day, and he would thrive in a home with a similar schedule. Another playful dog would be preferred, as he adores having a friend to play with and gets along well with dogs of all sizes. He might be a bit too much for a senior dog though as he constantly craves attention from his dog friends. He has yet to be tested with cats, but since he is still so young, we believe he could learn to make friends with a kitty. An active family, couple, or single person who is ready to invest time, love, and gentle training would be perfect for him. Oscar is a bright, loving, and social pup who’s ready to bring joy, laughter, and companionship to a home that can match his playful spirit and give him the guidance he needs to grow into the amazing dog he’s meant to be.

-Want to Adopt me?-
Please visit https://scgrrescue.org/ to learn more about our rescue.
