Meet Oscar
Oscar was one of the lucky dogs rescued right before the December 2022 Houston freeze. He was roaming around a neighborhood for a week or so when he wandered into the right yard! His finder called the rescue where she adopted her baby from and quickly became a foster mom herself. Now Oscar is healthy and ready for his furever home.
Oscar is a gentle, medium size (34 lbs) male dog who has never met a stranger. We think he is around 2 years old and looks and acts like a mix of a Jack Russell Terrier, a Shiba Inu to give him that curly tail and maybe a Canaan or Beagle?? He is very friendly with people and mostly likes to play with other dogs. He quickly settled in with the two dogs at his foster home. He appears to be house trained and will usually sit at the door when he wants out. He gets in a crate to nap sometimes, but prefers the door to stay open. He lets us trim his nails without argument. He is a quiet dog in the house but will bark occasionally when he is in the backyard.
Oscar loves to eat from any bowl he comes across so he would need a home where the bowls are picked up or where sharing is ok. He has some prey drive but it's not strong so a home with cats may be a case-by-case basis. If he has a doggie buddy to keep him busy then we think the cat(s) will be a second thought.
He has not been interested in chewing on non-food items but stalks the kitchen for snacks. He likes to snuggle for a short time and then he likes to find his own spot and curl up to sleep. He is an explorer so in addition to lots of love, walks and play time, he needs a secure fence! He loves going on his walks and meeting other dogs and kids in the neighborhood. He likes to cuddle with you overnight or nap on the couch too. Oscar is heartworm negative, has gained some weight and according to our Veterinarian, he is in great health.
Do you think Oscar might be your next pack member?
