Oreo's Story

Meet Oreo
Location: Mission, TX
Date of Birth: 05/01/2024

Oreo is a young Great Dane with a big personality and an even bigger heart. At around 90 pounds, he may be considered on the smaller side for a Dane, but he firmly believes he is the perfect size to be a lap dog. Oreo is affectionate, playful, and loves being close to his people.

Oreo enjoys playing with toys, especially loud squeaky toys or crinkly toys. One squeak is usually all it takes to start a game of fetch. He also loves relaxing around the house and will happily stretch out wherever he chooses, even if it happens to be right in the middle of the room. Like many Danes, he is convinced that wherever he lies down instantly becomes the most important spot in the house.

He is kennel trained and does well riding in the car. Oreo sometimes goes into his kennel on his own when it is time to settle down, though occasionally he will try to avoid bedtime by flopping onto the floor and refusing to move. He is a smart dog with a playful and sometimes stubborn streak.

Oreo is currently pad and kennel trained but may mark occasionally when free roaming the house. His foster home has another dog that marks, which may contribute to the behavior. With consistency and continued training, this should continue to improve.

He is currently working on his leash manners and can pull when excited. Oreo has also recently shown some dog reactivity, and his foster family has begun training to help him feel more comfortable around unfamiliar dogs. With proper introductions and time to adjust, he has done well living with other dogs.

Oreo currently lives with several dogs of various sizes, including small dogs and larger dogs, and enjoys playing and running around with his canine companions. Introductions to new dogs should be slow and structured so he has time to feel comfortable.

He has also lived with cats. As a puppy, one of his best friends was the family cat. Now that Oreo is much larger, the cats in the home are less interested in playing, but he continues to coexist safely with them. He may occasionally chase when the other dogs do, but he has not shown aggression toward the cats.

Oreo does well with adults and has not had issues with visitors entering the home. He may bark when someone arrives at the door but settles once they come inside. When excited, he may jump up to greet people, so continued training will help reinforce calmer greetings. Because of his size and enthusiasm, a home with older children or teens would likely be the best fit.

Oreo is currently heartworm positive and undergoing treatment. His activity is somewhat restricted during this time, but once he has completed treatment he will be able to return to more active play and outdoor time.

The ideal home for Oreo is one that will be patient while he adjusts and continues his training. He is a smart dog who learns quickly with consistency and structure. Oreo thrives on companionship and will do best with a family who enjoys having their dog nearby and involved in daily life.

For someone looking for a loyal companion, a playful personality, and a very large cuddle partner, Oreo has all the qualities that make Great Danes such beloved family members.

If you are interested in adopting Oreo, please complete an adoption application.
https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176

Team Rocky Enterprises, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
How Our Adoption Process Works Team Rocky Enterprises DBA Save Rocky the Great Dane Rescue and Rehab (SRGDRR) follows a thoughtful adoption process designed to ensure the best possible match for both our dogs and their future families. Our available dogs are posted on our website, Facebook page, and multiple adoption platforms, including Petfinder. Once you find a dog you’re interested in, the process includes: 1. Adoption Application – This helps us learn about you, your household, and what you’re looking for in a dog so we can make the best match. 2. Veterinary Reference Check – We verify that current or past pets have received appropriate veterinary care. First-time pet owners are welcome and encouraged to apply. 3. Phone Interview – This is a chance for us to talk with you about the dog you’re interested in, including personality, needs, medical history, and any quirks. It’s also your opportunity to ask questions about the dog and our rescue. 4. Home Check – We confirm that your home environment is safe and appropriate for the dog, whether that includes a fenced yard or a leash-walking setup. This is not a housekeeping inspection—just a safety check. Once all steps are completed and approved, you’ll sign an adoption contract and submit an adoption donation. From there, your new forever friend will be ready to head home! Why This Process Matters Our goal is to match each dog with a home that best meets their needs. Some dogs thrive with experienced owners, while others do best with someone who is home most of the day or understands specific behavioral or medical needs. Taking the time to get this right helps ensure lifelong, successful adoptions. Our Lifetime Commitment If at any point you are unable to keep your adopted dog, you must contact us. We will always take our dogs back. We never want them to end up in unsafe situations or shelters again. Our responsibility to each dog lasts for their lifetime. Thank you for choosing rescue and for considering adoption with SRGDRR.
