Optimistic and O'mazing Oscar's Story

Fostered in Sacramento

Hello World,
I’m Optimistic and O’mazing Oscar, a handsome cream colored three year old pup (Bichon/Cocker or Cockapoo)who tips the scales at 20 pounds and is now living the life I was meant to live.

I became a FurKid when my owner move into something called “assisted living.” I wasn’t allowed to join him which made me sad but some Bichon FurKid Angels intervened and now I’m very glad and grateful!

My foster Mom wants you to know all about me so let me start by telling you what I do best: it’s called Fetch. If you say, “Oscar, find your ball,” I’ll search, locate, and proudly deliver it right back to you. It’s my superpower (and Mom says I’m really, really good at it!).

I also know commands like “sit,” “ball,” my name (very important), and I’m now learning “off.” The secret to my learning? A desire to please and these special things called “treats.” I am extremely motivated by treats. I have an excellent nose and can detect a snack in your pocket from impressive distances. Don’t worry — I take treats very gently from your hand. I may be enthusiastic, but I am a gentleman!

When you talk to me, I tilt my head to the side, deeply considering everything you’re saying. Between me and you, I am probably thinking about snacks. But — I AM listening.

I’m playful, curious, and very loving. I enjoy yard time, deck sitting, and “squirrel supervision” responsibilities. Watching the world from the safety of my home base- why that’s an excellent hobby. I will alert you if I see something noteworthy — a bike, a car, a passerby.,, you get the picture! I’m observant and have found my voice.

Inside the house and yard, I’m confident and comfortable. I am housebroken and go to the door when I need to go out -- and come back when I’m ready to come in. I walk nicely on my leash in the yard, but the big outside world is still a little overwhelming for me. When it’s time to walk beyond the yard… I become afraid. Mom’s working with me on this and I need a patient human in my forever home who will help build my confidence with gentle, positive experiences. I haven’t seen much of the world yet, but I’m curious about it and just need a little more time.

I do well with other dogs, especially ones that can show me the way. I may be fine with a confident dog friend or as your one-and-only. Because I’m still young and can be a little “mouthy” (in a playful way, never biting), I do best with older, dog-savvy kids.

Did I mention that I ride nicely in a crate and settle down quickly when riding in the car?> Well I do! When I’m left at home, I relax quietly in my crate too. No fuss. No drama!

My Ideal Home:
-A patient family to give me time to become the best dog I can be
– Someone home most of the time
– Adults or a family with older dog-savvy kids
– A confident dog friend to help me learn or I can be the only pup in the home
Experience level:
– Have had dogs as an adult
– Recent/current dog experience a plus

I’m smart, affectionate, and eager to please. And I have so much potential. I’m looking for someone who understands that underneath my sometimes cautious approach is a playful, devoted companion who wants to learn, explore, and bond deeply with his special person.

Give me patience. Give me guidance. And maybe… give me a treat. And I’ll give you a loving heart for the rest of our lives.

Tail wags and promises
Optimistic and O’mazing Oscar
