Opal Light's Story

Meet Opal Light!
A little Swiftie with a BIG spirit!

Opal is a 7-month-old Border Collie/Husky mix who has already overcome more than most dogs ever will. She was found by Animal Control lying on the side of the road, likely after being hit by a car. Her spine was fractured leaving her paralyzed. To add illness to injury she subsequently developed double pneumonia in the shelter. Opal was scheduled for euthanasia when Herding Haven stepped in and gave her a second chance.

With the love and dedication of her foster mom, Opal recovered from pneumonia and was fitted for a wheelchair. It took her a little time to get the hang of it, but now she's a wheelchair pro! She runs, chases balls and frisbees, and has discovered a whole new kind of freedom.

Despite everything she's been through, Opal is sweet, social, gentle, and incredibly loving. She great with other dogs, does well with cats, and her gentle nature makes her a wonderful companion for children.

Opal is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and ready for her forever home. She's a little survivor with a huge heart—and she's ready to fill someone's life with love, laughter, zoomies, and maybe a little Taylor Swift. Opal Light is from Herding Haven

[Clinton, UT]

Our Mission
Herding Haven rescues herding dogs from shelters where they have been deemed "unadaptable" due to physical, medical or behavioral issues (or sometimes just because the shelter is out of space). We place them in foster homes, rehabilitate them and then find them "forever" homes.
