Opal's Story

MEET OPAL! OPAL IS CURRENTLY BEING FOSTERED IN LOUISIANA

Opal is an approx. 7-month-old black Labbie girl who is as sweet and loving as they come! She’s a total Velcro girl who wants to be right by your side—whether you’re gardening, cleaning the car, or even making a quick trip to the bathroom!

Opal loves people, gets along beautifully with other animals, and has no interest in being anything but sweet. She wants to learn, please, and form that special bond with her person.

Opal was with a family who fell on some hard times. Friends stepped up to help, but unfortunately, they just don’t have the time this sweet girl needs. Opal deserves a family who can give her the love, attention, and companionship she craves.

She is fully vetted, parasite-free, and heartworm tested last month. She’s ready to find her forever family!

Meet Opal—your new best friend may be waiting! PLEASE READ BELOW - and visit NYSRR.com to fill out our online application.

Please note, most of our dogs, are NOT local. We partner with a rescue group in Louisiana that helps these dogs before they ever end up in a shelter. Once a foster or adopter is found, we bring the dogs up to the Northeast on paid transport. This cost is included in our adoption fee.

We mention this because adopting a dog you have not personally met is not for everyone and we understand and respect that. We also ask that our adopters live within a 60-mile radius of Long Island (we have made exceptions for the right match). You may wonder why we have this geographic requirement. Simply put, most of our volunteers and professional resources are located on Long Island, and we want to be available to our adopters and dogs if help is ever needed.

If you are comfortable with this, we would love to hear from you. Please visit NYSRR.com and complete our online application. Every application is followed by a phone interview and a remote home visit. It is all just an opportunity to get to know more about you, your family, your lifestyle, and your dog experience so we ensure it is a right fit.
