Opal's Story

Opal came to us as a young puppy, along with her mom and 5 littermates, from the Towaoc animal control facility. Her mom was a 35 lb. kelpie mix and we're unsure who her dad was. Mom was incredibly sweet and loving and has found her forever home. Soon after their arrival here, we noticed there was something a little off with Opal's hind end mobility and the shape of her spine. Upon examination with our vet we learned that she has a wedge shaped vertebrae towards the end of her back that causes the rest of her spine to compensate by curving around it. She will have continued pressure on her nerves as she ages and the specialist in Alb. gave her several (probably 3+) good years before she'd be wheelchair bound.
As happy as she is here and as much as we love her, we're still looking for her angel who will fall in love with her and give her the forever life she deserves, regardless of how long that may be. We know there are folks out there who have cared for this type of special need. We have had so many miraculous rescue stories happen with our animals and we know Miss Opal's rescue-love story is just beginning to unfold.
Opal is fully vetted, excellent with other dogs, does great on leash, really good in her crate at night, and just super sweet and loving. She is currently about a year old and is just over 50 lbs.
Please call us at 970-749-1968 to find out more about this amazing girl!
