Onyx - smart and sweet's Story
Meet Onyx!

Onyx is a brilliant 50-lb., 2-1/2-year-old Lab/Border Collie/GSD mix who’s a sensitive sweetheart. He loves to cuddle, and you’ll quickly become his whole world!

His people have had a work change where they’re now working long hours away from home, and for Onyx’s wellbeing they’re making the sad decision to find him a home where he can have thrive with more social time. We’re stepping in to help them find him a great home.

Onyx is a loyal Velcro dog who’s tuned into his person 24/7. He loves connection, stimulation and a predictable routine.

He’s very sweet and occasionally shy, and he has some leash reactivity when he’s out and about. He’s in a good training program to give him confidence, and we recommend his adopters continue this training.

He’s an incredibly smart and social boy who loves to play fetch and tug-of-war! He likes to perform tricks and he responds to cues like Sit, Lay Down, Stay, Place, Eyes and Drop. He’ll need an active adopter who can keep him mentally stimulated — which we’ve found is a natural need with most herding breeds.

Onyx prefers quiet situations, and boisterous dogs in dog parks can be a bit much for him. But once he gets to know the other dogs he’ll get along well, especially with familiar doggie pals.

A quiet suburban or rural fenced-in yard would be ideal. We’re saying no kids under the age of 10, no kitties, and preferably no other dogs in the home — although it’s possible he could be tested with a quiet resident dog to see if it’s a good match.

He’s neutered, house-trained and crate-trained.

Onyx will love being in a home with people who understand smart, sensitive dogs, and who want a devoted companion.

For more info, send us an email at SummitDogRescue@gmail.com, telling us a bit about yourself, your home environment and your lifestyle. A volunteer will get back to you shortly.
