Ollie's Story

His original family included three college-age children, two other dogs, and two other cats. He is very smart, sweet, gentle, loving, and loyal to our immediate family members. He loves playing with his toys, fetching tennis balls, tummy petting time, and ginger snaps. He is happy lying on the floor, our couch, or our bed, as long as he is somewhere near us. He’s very anxious to please, cooperative with basic instructions, travels in the car well, does not have inside accidents, and can be left at home alone comfortably up to at least 6 hours. He is healthy and had his annual exam on December 4, is up to date on all vaccines, and his teeth were cleaned in September.

Ollie currently lives with my husband and me. My husband has Alzheimer’s and we have had to recently move to an apartment to downsize and simplify responsibilities since I still work full time. The apartment management is requiring us to remove him to complaints from other residents about his barking at them when we are walking him. While he has no behavior problems of any other kind, he is quite anxious by nature (takes anxiety medication) and very fearful/reactive toward strangers when he is with us. He is not reactive when he is around other people when we are not present, including at the groomer, vet, and boarding kennel. In our home when we have guests, he happily retreats to our bedroom and remains there quietly.

We feel like with the right training and consistency, he is capable of becoming more confident and less fearful and reactive. We tried working with a couple trainers but were not as consistent with addressing this issue when he could happily run and play in a large fenced in yard at our previous home. We have been assured he is not aggressive by nature, just reactive and protective.

We love him to death and hope to find a home in an environment with an experienced dog owner where he will be happy and thrive. We are happy to cover all expenses for food, toys, supplies, or other needed items to transition him to a new home.

if you are interested in adopting or fostering, please contact:
Carmen Lawton
Carmen.Lawton@allianz.com

Posted Dec 8 2025
