Olive's Story
Olive is a petite, gentle sweetheart who is still shy but has come a long way from the anxious, uncertain girl she once was. At just 38 pounds, she’s the perfect “medium” size! When people meet her in person, they almost always comment "I didn't realize she was so tiny!" or "Is this really as big as she is going to get?" YES!

Olive’s happiest doing a mix of her favorite things: riding in the car, going for her twice-a-day walks, and chasing a ball in the backyard (she will chase it with enthusiasm… just don’t expect her to return it all the way back to you every time! haha!) Despite her playful moments, Olive is not a high-energy dog. After her walk and dinner, she’s content to curl up beside you while you unwind or binge your latest show. She is housetrained, gentle taking treats, and loves a predictable routine.

Olive spent many months in her foster home learning how to be a dog, and every new experience—pet-friendly stores, meeting visitors, going on outings—continues to help her build confidence. But she is still a cautious, sensitive soul. She needs an adopter who will advocate for her as she adjusts to new environments and who understands that trust and confidence don’t happen overnight. Multiple meet-and-greets may be needed before you see her tail really wag—but once she chooses you, she will greet you with the happiest wiggles and a big smile every time.

Olive adores other dogs and looks to them for reassurance: “Is this person safe? Is this situation okay?” For that reason, we feel strongly that she will thrive in a home with a friendly, well-balanced dog who can show her the way.

She has warmed up more easily to women, and while she currently lives with a man in her foster home, she mostly tolerates him rather than bonding—so she’d likely be most comfortable in an all-female household. She must have a cat-free home, as she is far too interested in them to coexist peacefully.

While Olive loves meeting calm, gentle kids when out and about, she would probably prefer a home without kids, OR with older, dog-savvy kids who understand that loud noise and sharp movements will frighten or startle her. She will need time to adjust to her new environment and kids don't always understand to take it slow when they are excited about their new furry family member. Slow is the name of the game when it comes to earning Olive's trust.

Olive has already overcome so much, and she continues to grow a little more each day. With patience, steady guidance, and the comfort of another confident dog by her side, we know she will blossom! She may take time to trust, but the bond you earn with Olive will be incredibly special and deeply rewarding. We hope you will apply to meet her!
