Olga's Story

Hi, my name is Olga! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:
-Personality: Impressionable, gentle
-Can Live with Kids: Dog savvy teens may be okay (14 years and older).
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history but might be okay with a slow/supervised introductions.
-Can Live with Dogs: Not at this time, Olga is still very nervous around other dogs. She will need to work on socialization with other dogs before living with one.
-Can do Apartment Living: No, Olga was found as a stray who had been outside for weeks. It has been hard for her to adjust to the indoors and would not do well in an apartment setting.
-Potty Trained: May need a little work.
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Depending on adopter's experience she may be required to be signed up for a private lesson to help with confidence.
-Energy Level: Mod-high
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes a spay
-Additional Information: Meet Olga, a sweet and sensitive girl who is just beginning to learn how wonderful life can be.
Olga was found as a stray in the county with another dog, and it took over a week of patience and kindness for her rescuer to slowly gain their trust and bring them to safety. That experience tells you a lot about Olga—she’s cautious in new situations, but once she feels safe, her gentle nature shines through.
Now in the shelter, Olga is adjusting to indoor life and making progress every day. She’s still building confidence and has a long way to go, but she’s trying. With calm, gentle people, Olga is affectionate and sweet, enjoying quiet companionship and soft attention. She will need help learning basic skills, including leash walking, as she has no experience and is still figuring out how the world works.
Olga is looking for a patient, understanding home—one that will move at her pace, provide a consistent routine, and use positive, reward-based training to help her grow. With time, love, and encouragement, Olga has the potential to blossom into a loyal and loving companion.
If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
