Olaf's Story

Meet Olaf
Olaf is a 4-year-old neutered hound with a gentle heart and a cautious nature. He was surrendered when he struggled to coexist with other pets in the home, and he's now looking for a calm, patient adopter who understands that trust takes time.

Olaf can be shy with unfamiliar people and may growl when he feels unsure. He is especially sensitive to direct or overhead approaches and is head shy-tall people or those standing over him can make him nervous, causing him to duck or bark. A calm, low approach and the use of a harness help him feel safe and supported.

He has lived with medium to large dogs, has no experience with cats, and can be protective of his toys and his people. Olaf will do best with experienced, dog-savvy adopters who understand fearful or shy dogs and are committed to positive reinforcement, consistency, and clear boundaries.

During a recent field trip, Olaf showed just how capable he can be. While he was nervous in the car, he did very well once out in public. He walked nicely on leash, stayed close to his handler, and calmly greeted everyone he met. Staff noted that he was extremely obedient and responsive, especially when given clear guidance.

The good news? Olaf is smart and eager to learn-he already knows sit, stay, and shake, especially when treats are involved! And once he warms up, his true personality shines. He becomes an affectionate, happy dog who adores his people and will eagerly jump in for attention and love.
