Okapi's Story

Pupdate: Okapi had surgery on her leg Wednesday. The surgery went very well. Pins were insered in her knee area to correct the growth plate and another broken bone. Her recovery time is approx. 4 to 6 weeks. In 4 weeks, x-rays will be re-taken to see how the bones are healing. We are looking for a temporary foster home to care for Okapi during this time.

Okapi is about 4 months old. She is a mix of a Herding breed/Pit Bull who has beaten incredible odds just to be here today.

Before arriving from Bakersfield, Okapi and her sister, Panda, were tiny puppies suffering from pneumonia, They watched nearly their entire litter disappear. Four siblings died in the shelter, two more died in foster care, and another was euthanized at the hospital. Against all odds, Okapi and Panda survived.

Today, their journey took another heartbreaking turn. Okapi was found to have a severly fractured growth plate in her rear leg and will need surgery to repair it.Once her surgery is complete, Okapi will need a quiet foster home where she can safely recover, heal, and continue growing into the happy puppy she deserves to be. After everything these girls have endured, we're hoping someone will open their heart and help give Okapi the soft landing she so desperately needs.

Can you be her hero?
A foster home can make all the difference in her recovery.
