Oboe's Story

Meet Oboe! Soft, sweet, and a little scruffy, he has eyes that have seen enough of life to know how to appreciate the gentle parts of it.

Oboe has that unteachable gift some senior dogs have… the ability to bring calm to a room simply by existing. He doesn’t demand attention, but he’s always right there, ready to rest his head against your leg or follow you from one spot to the next. He’s polite, quiet, and endlessly patient.

Like many seniors, Oboe carries the marks of time. His skin is a rough and caked up with dander, his body dotted with small lumps and growths, possible hyperthyrodism, lyme disease, and his eyes are softly clouded by the years. But none of that diminishes the beauty of him. He’s still playful ~ his favorite toy, Lamby, is already his treasured companion ~ and when he’s finished playing, he settles himself down quietly and drifts into a deep, contented sleep, wrapped in a blanket. He recently had a dental, so he has fewer teeth, but they're a bright pearly white.

He walks well on leash, rides nicely in the car, and is fully house-trained. He will even bark to let you know when it's time for a walk. He’s lived with children, cats, and dogs before, and he’s been nothing but kind to everyone he’s met since arriving here. His back legs wobble a bit, but his spirit hasn’t slowed at all. He can manage a few stairs but would need help with several. He is happy to be carried like the prince that he is.

What Oboe needs now is simple ~ a soft bed, a kind voice, and the kind of love that doesn’t rush or expect too much. Could you be the one to give it to him? He likes plenty of snuggles and snoozing on the couch. He loves to go for walks and is speedier than you might expect. He enjoys lots of sniffs and getting gentle pets from passers by. He has plenty of opinions and is happy to share them.

Oboe is approximately 10 years old and 17 lbs.

Fostered in Arlington, VA
Please apply at MirisHaven.org
