Nutmeg's Story

IF INTERESTED: Please fill out an application on our website at https://parkersanimalrescue.com/forms.

FOR UPDATED PHOTOS: Make sure to check us out on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/parkersanimalrescue)

Nutmeg is the definition of resilience wrapped in sweetness.

If you had to describe her in one word, it would be resilient — and she truly is. Despite losing her vision due to SARD (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration), Nutmeg has adapted with grace, intelligence, and an unwaveringly positive spirit.

Blindness hasn’t dimmed her love for life.

She has quickly learned the layout of her foster home, confidently finding her crate, the toy box, sunny nap spots, and even the doggy door (a very proud moment for everyone). When you call her name, she immediately orients to your voice — she always knows where her people are. Her intelligence is remarkable, and her ability to problem-solve and navigate safely continues to grow every day.

Nutmeg absolutely loves being around her humans. Whether you’re cooking in the kitchen, relaxing in the living room, or heading outside, she will happily position herself nearby for companionship — and maybe a snack that “accidentally” hits the floor. She’s happiest simply being close.

Outside time is one of her greatest joys. In the backyard, there’s a visible lift in her energy and mood. She loves roaming, exploring, and being part of the pack. While she can’t quite keep up with younger dogs for long stretches (she is a dignified 8-year-old, after all), one good session outside will leave her content and ready for a cozy nap.

Her crate is her safe haven. She settles beautifully for naps and bedtime, and there have been no accidents inside it. She also enjoys sunbathing on the rug, chewing on a peanut butter-filled benebone, or savoring a collagen chew.

On leash, Nutmeg does wonderfully. Her harness gives her the security she appreciates, and she enjoys walks at a comfortable pace.

Nutmeg thrives in a home where someone is around a decent amount of the time. She doesn’t need constant supervision, but guidance and a predictable environment help her avoid bumps and feel secure. Her halo harness is a helpful tool, though it doesn’t need to be worn at all times.

What stands out most about Nutmeg is her attitude. Losing sight after once having it is no small adjustment — but it hasn’t made her bitter or withdrawn. She remains social, affectionate, and deeply loving. She wants to be included. She wants to belong. And when she trusts you, she gives you her whole heart.

Nutmeg doesn’t need chaos or constant activity. She needs steady companionship, routine, and a family who sees her blindness not as a limitation — but simply as one part of her beautiful story.

If you’re looking for a loyal, intelligent, sun-loving senior who will stay close and love deeply, Nutmeg may be your girl.

Submit an application today.
