Novak's Story

Meet Novak - lovingly known as Parker - a 7-year-old, 46 lb. Husky mix with a heart as big as his comeback story!

Quick Facts:
Name: Novak (Parker)
Breed: Husky/Shepherd Mix
Age: 7 years old
Weight: 46 lbs.
House-Trained: Yes but has occasional accidents out of fear (will wear a belly band)
Crate-Trained: Yes
Good with Dogs: Yes
Good with Cats: Yes
Good with Kids: Yes (older, gentle kids who can respect his boundaries)
Energy Level: Medium
Fence Required: Yes

Special Note: Novak has been diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy and has had 3 seizures since being with the rescue. He is currently on Keppra twice a day to manage his condition.

About Novak’s Breed:
Our best guess is that Novak is a Husky/Shepherd mixed breed A Husky–Shepherd mix (a blend of the Siberian Husky and the German Shepherd) is typically an intelligent, loyal, and energetic companion. These dogs often combine the Husky’s playful spirit and endurance with the German Shepherd’s trainability and devotion to their people. They tend to be active, alert, and happiest when they have both physical exercise and mental stimulation.

Their ideal home is with an experienced, confident owner who can provide consistent structure, positive reinforcement training, and plenty of daily activity. A fenced yard is often a great fit, as many enjoy running and exploring safely. Because they can form strong bonds with their families, they usually thrive in homes where they’re included in daily life and not left alone for long stretches.

What to Love about Novak:
Rescued as a stray in heartbreaking condition, he was severely underweight and suffering from significant hair loss. Fast forward to today, and this resilient boy has regained his healthy weight, grown back his beautiful coat, and blossomed into the sweet, soulful dog he was always meant to be.

Novak has been diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy and is currently on Keppra twice a day. Despite this, he looks and acts like a happy, healthy pup and doesn't let his condition get him down! He continues to thrive physically and emotionally in foster care.

Novak is currently learning the ropes of potty training. He does wonderfully wearing a belly band—he keeps it dry overnight like a champ! While he occasionally urinates indoors, it appears to be behavioral and often happens when he’s left alone. Because of this, he may do best in a home where someone is around more often than not. He is crate trained and can be crated when you’re away. Given his past, he can sometimes guard his crate or resources—but he responds beautifully to calm redirection and treats. He’s smart and eager to learn!

This handsome boy would love a patient, experienced family willing to move at his pace and continue building his confidence with positive reinforcement. Loud noises and quick movements can make him nervous, so a calm environment would help him feel secure. He has done well meeting a 9-year-old and would likely thrive with older, respectful children. Because of his resource guarding, a home without very young children would be best.
Novak is fantastic with other dogs and enjoys spending time with the German Shepherd in his foster home. He also lives with four cats and does well with them—though he may occasionally try to chase one, he’s easily redirected. He can play a little rough with dog friends, but he is never aggressive with people.

He loves walks (and is great on a leash!), car rides, and playing ball. A fenced-in yard would be a dream come true for him—a safe space to run, play, and burn off energy. While he has a playful and active side, he also enjoys lounging and relaxing at home. He strikes a wonderful balance between fun-loving and laid-back.

Like most Huskies, Novak can be vocal, so apartment living wouldn’t be ideal. He would do best with someone who works from home or is home often—but he’ll also need gentle practice being alone to prevent separation anxiety. He may need to continue wearing his belly band long-term, but he tolerates it without fuss.

At his core, Parker is incredibly sweet, funny, and smart. He has made amazing progress and is truly a joy to work with. More than anything, he wants to feel safe, loved, and part of a family of his own!

Novak’s Noteworthy Highlights:
• 7-year-old, 46 lb.
