Nova's Story

Hi there! My name is Nova, and I'm a 53-pound Terrier mix with more energy than I know what to do with!

I'm still very much a puppy at heart - bouncy, playful, and full of excitement for life. I love chasing squeaky toys, running around, and soaking up all the attention I can get. I'll admit, I tend to jump up on people because I just get so happy to see them, but I'm learning that keeping four paws on the ground earns me more treats (and oh boy, do I love treats!).

I'm super food-motivated, which makes training fun for both of us - just don't take too long with those snacks, or I might bark to remind you who's waiting! I'm looking for an active, patient family who can help me channel all this energy in positive ways.

A home with a yard would be amazing since I've got a lot of zoomies to get out, and apartment life might be a bit too small for a busy girl like me. I don't like being left alone for too long - it makes me anxious and a little noisy - so I'd do best with people who are home often or can include me in their adventures.

With consistent training, lots of exercise, and a loving hand to guide me, I know I'll grow into the well-mannered, affectionate companion I'm meant to be. I may be a handful now, but I promise I'm worth every bit of effort and love you give me!

Humane Society of The Black Hills's Adoption Policy
The adoption process may take up to one hour to complete but we’ll keep it as simple and streamlined as possible. Here are the steps when you’re considering adopting a pet: - Visit our website to see available animals or see them on-site during regular hours, seven days a week. - When you find a dog, cat or small animal you would like to spend more time with, simply call the Humane Society of the Black Hills at (605) 394-4170 for an appointment. - Occasionally, our team is able to accommodate walk-ins, but as we cannot guarantee them, it is best to call for an appointment. -During your scheduled appointment, an adoption advisor will review the animal's history with you and bring the animal to meet you for an initial visit. - A second appointment may be made for you for a variety of reasons (Ex. You have a dog at home you'd like to bring in to meet the pet next). -Once you have met a pet that you think is your perfect match and you have been approved to adopt, your adoption advisor will take you through the adoption process, and you can take your new family member home!
