Nova's Story

Meet Nova, a darling senior sweetheart with a heart as big as her smile! Although she's deaf, Nova doesn't let that slow her down one bit. She's adapted beautifully, confidently navigating the world around her and living life to the fullest. Because she can't hear, she'll need a securely fenced yard or another safe means of confinement, as she may wander off if given the opportunity.

Nova is a gentle, happy girl who loves meeting new people and making friends wherever she goes. She's generally quiet, though every now and then she'll let out an adorable little "bay" when she's excited. She especially enjoys playing with puppies and kittens, and you'll often see her bouncing around with pure joy. When playtime is over, she's just as happy taking leisurely neighborhood walks or relaxing with her family.

Nova is looking for a loving home that will appreciate all the little things that make her so special. Her adorable underbite adds to her charm, and while she has a few normal age-related changes, she continues to enjoy life with a happy, easygoing attitude. She has a small, stable 2 mm mass on her left shoulder that has remained unchanged and isn't causing her any problems. Like many senior dogs, she also has mild muscle loss and some cloudiness in her eyes (nuclear sclerosis), which is a common part of aging.

Nova has had ear infections in the past, but they are not an active concern. She has also benefited from a daily probiotic and joint supplement to help keep her feeling comfortable and enjoying her golden years.

If you're looking for a sweet, affectionate companion who loves people, gets along beautifully with other animals, and has so much love left to give, Nova is ready to steal your heart.

Potty-Trained: Yes
Behavior towards adults: Loves meeting new people
Behavior towards children: Good with children (youngest has been 7 years old)
Behavior towards other dogs: Enjoys playing with other dogs, especially puppies
Behavior towards cats: Does well with cats and kittens
Crate-trained: Yes
Stairs: Unknown
Medical Concerns & Medication: Nova is deaf but has adapted wonderfully. She has a small, stable 2 mm mass on her left shoulder that is being monitored and is not currently causing any concerns. She also has mild muscle loss and age-related nuclear sclerosis, which is a normal part of aging. Nova has a history of ear infections that are no longer active and has done well with a daily probiotic and joint supplement to support her overall health.

As a rescue organization, we provide all medical care, procedures, and testing that are available to us while the dog is in our care. Adopters are responsible for ongoing preventatives, follow-up veterinary appointments, and any medications as needed after adoption. In some cases, adopters may also be responsible for procedures not completed while in rescue, such as dental cleanings, additional bloodwork, or other recommended care.

Please note that we work with volunteer veterinarians and partner veterinary clinics, and protocols may vary between veterinary offices.

All adopted dogs will receive their rabies and distemper vaccinations prior to adoption.

We offer a $50 adoption fee discount for seniors (65+) and veterans. Adoption fees help offset the cost of veterinary exams, vaccinations (rabies and distemper), heartworm testing, spay/neuter surgery (if needed), and any additional medical care specific to each individual dog.

At this time, Grey Face Rescue is unable to adopt outside of Minnesota. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We do not place animals in homes where current pets are not up to date on vaccinations or are not spayed/neutered. Exceptions may be considered for documented medical reasons as provided by a licensed veterinarian. Thank you for supporting our mission to reduce pet overpopulation.

Once your application has been submitted, our Adoption Manager will be in touch. Please be sure to check your spam or junk folder if you do not hear from us within 7-10 days.

Thank you for your interest in adopting a Grey Face senior. We truly appreciate your support.
