Meet Nova

COURTESY POST:

Nova is a sweet Cane Corso who is a bit over a year old, weighs over 50 lbs., is spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, and house and leash/harness trained. Despite a rough start in life, her fosters have showered her with love and positive reinforcement and her heart and personality have shown she just wants all the love and attention she can get. Because Nova is ready to play all day long, she needs strong owners who will give her boundaries and maintain the rules. She is intelligent and would do well with training or having a job to perform.

Nova would do well in a home with a fur brother or sister to play with and teach her the house rules. She is a couch potato and loves to sleep with her family on the couch or bed. She behaves well when being groomed and will sit patiently and wait for her name to be called when treats are offered and then gently takes the cookie. Because of the food aggression she experienced at her previous home, she is fed separately to reduce any possible stress and she has done well waiting for others to finish eating before she inspects their bowls. She rides well in the car and will move from the back up to the front seat to help navigate the road.

Because she is encountering many new situations, she needs to be taken into them gently or she may get overwhelmed, need reassurance and try to pull out of her harness. She has done well at people events when sitting on the outside of a crowd to get used to the sounds. She has loved going out on walks and to the lake, but she is scared of the water after running full tilt into the lake and realizing she had to swim!

She needs space and gentle introductions with new humans but once she realizes she is safe, she considers them new playmates. She loves the dog park but also needs gentle introductions there each time she meets the dogs. Once she is comfortable, she believes they are also her new playmates and can play chase and tackle for hours.

Nova needs patience, positive reinforcement, attention, love, rules and boundaries and she will be so worth it. She definitely needs a fenced yard and room to run. Because of her size and strength, a home with small children is not recommended for her. She has done well with older kids who are able to redirect her neediness. A meet and great with other dogs in the home is a must.

Nova's adoption fee is $165.00. If you are interested in adopting this special dog, please complete an adoption application and email it to myhappytail@yahoo.com. Applications are found on APAC website, www.myhappytail.org, under the How to Adopt menu.
