Meet Nova

Immediate foster or foster to adopt needed for Miss Nova. ?

Nova's story:

Nova was originally removed from her home due to abuse/neglect. She was then placed in boarding through another rescue. She went to one foster but was too much for them to handle as they are an older couple. She went back to boarding... she has now been with this foster for a year but can no longer remain there. Her current placements personal dog is not doing well and time is limited, she needs to focus on her dog and cherish the end of their time together. Also, she rotates due to aggressive dogs in the home and Nova needs to learn to be a part of a home and routine. We do NOT want to see her go back to boarding, this would be a major setback for her. When Nova was removed from that home, she was in a crate with a tire on top to make sure she didn't get out. Her blood, vomit, and God knows what else was everywhere. It is believed the other dogs in the hone were allowed to attack her and she was put in the crate. I was also told she was fed through the top of the crate. In the photos her bowls were filled w, what looks to be, her puke.

About Nova, the good and the bad:

Nova spent a weekend in a home when her foster went away. This was the first time in the past year that she had all the attention on her. Nova is a total velcro dog. She just wants to be loved and get attention. She constantly wants to know what the human is doing and will follow you around. She would do best somewhere she can go on adventures and walks, she loves the outdoors. She is strong and isn't the best on a leash with a collar, but with a harness she is easy to walk. When she sees a bunny, deer, bird, she does want to go to it and pulls. When I have walked her and other dogs have barked at her, she ignored them and would go about her business. When the home she was in for the weekend walked her and she was on a collar and leash, she pulled towards dogs and people. She absolutely loves toys and destroying them. She has never been left out of the crate when left alone, I think it would be safe to say that at first she would probably get herself into some chewing trouble but with time and learning, I think she would do fine. When she is first put in the crate and you leave, she does bark and cry. She had spent a few nights with me before and I had sat outside to make sure amd she did calm and stop. There are times when you go to let her out of the crate that she barks and attacks at the crate. She has met with a trainer who believes this is totally workable. With her current foster, when she tells her to stop she does. She had never dome it with me. She looooves car rides. And she believes she has her license and will sit on your lap as you drive if you don't have her with a doggy seat belt. Open the door and she hops right in. She gets super excited to see people. I had her with my 3 and 5 year old human kids and she got super excited with them. Not in an aggressive way. When my 3 yr old ran, she did run with him and knocked him down. Until she learned better manners, I would not have her with little humans because they may get hurt by accident. After her spay, she was in a foster for recovery and they stated she seemed too interested in the cat. Due to this they were not in direct contact. She is dog selective. She clearly has limited socializing with dogs. She mimics other dogs behavior. If the other dog starts to bark at her, she does also and pulls to get to that dog. If the dog is playful and not barking at her, she does the same. She was dog tested at AC and had zero issues. She met a potential fosters dog and that dog was excited and barking and she did the same and got defensive bc she didn't understand the behavior. She knows sit. And is very eager to please her human. She has a ridiculous amount of love to give and truly needs a chance. With training, socializing, and routine, she would make an amazing addition to a home. She is about 3 yrs old but with her life so far she is more like an overgrown puppy. She would do best in an experienced home, with someone willing to do training with her. Anyone who meets Nova, loves her. She just needs to learn how to doggy. There has to be someone out there wiing to help us teach her how to do so. When it is her turn with her current foster, she loves to sit in the window and go on neighborhood watch duty. I also believe she is just watching the world around her, taking it all in and wondering when it will be her turn to find her forever.

She is in the Bridgeville, PA area. If anyone is interested in meeting this hippopotamus, please reach out.
