Nora 's Story

Meet Nora

Imagine being a four-month-old puppy, huddled in the cold with only your sister for comfort. No blankets, no food, no love—just the two of you against the world. That was Nora’s reality. Thankfully, Nora and her sister were eventually brought to safety. Her sister has since found a home, but Nora is still waiting for her turn.

Now approximately 7–7.5 months old and weighing around 35–40 pounds, Nora is still just a puppy who deserves the chance to grow up in a loving home. We anticipate she will likely remain under 60 pounds when fully grown, though we cannot make any guarantees. Without a DNA test we cannot confirm her exact breed, but based on her appearance and shelter records we believe she may be a Black Mouth Cur x Shepherd mix.

Nora has spent most of her young life in the shelter after being picked up by animal control and never claimed. Recently, however, she had the opportunity to spend two weeks in a temporary foster home, and it made a significant difference. Her foster family had wonderful things to say about her.

She can be a little shy at first, but she warms up quickly and becomes a happy, affectionate companion. Nora is very dog-friendly and did wonderfully with her foster dog companion, showing that she enjoys the company of other dogs. For a young pup, she already walks nicely on a leash and has been making good progress with potty training. She has a lovely balance of playful puppy energy and affectionate, cuddle-loving sweetness.

Like any adolescent dog, Nora will thrive with a patient and committed family who is willing to continue working with her on training, socialization, and providing consistent structure as she grows. She would likely do very well in a home with another dog to play with and learn from. She has not been formally tested with cats, but slow and thoughtful introductions could certainly be considered. She has had limited exposure to children, so a home with older, respectful children who understand the energy of a young dog would likely be the best fit.

Nora will flourish in a home that provides both mental and physical enrichment. A home with a yard—ideally fenced—would be wonderful so she can safely explore and burn off her playful energy. While an apartment would not be her ideal environment, we are open to considering it on a case-by-case basis if her exercise needs can consistently be met.

The shelter where Nora is currently staying is severely overcrowded, and dogs like her are at risk simply due to lack of space. While she enjoys playing with her shelter friends, a kennel is no place for a young dog to grow up. Nora deserves the opportunity to learn what it means to be loved, to have a safe place to rest, and a family to call her own.

Health:
Nora is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on monthly prevention. She is healthy and ready to begin the next chapter of her life.

Information:
All of our dogs, including Nora, are currently located in Texas and will be transported to adopters once adoption is finalized. Transportation is included in the adoption fee. Breed labels are educated guesses based on appearance and shelter records. We encourage adopters to focus on personality, needs, and long-term compatibility rather than breed alone.

MA License #479
