NINA's Story

Meet Nina! Nina is a 2-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix whose story is full of strength and quiet resilience. She arrived at PAC on 5/20 after being surrendered, and just ten days later, she gave birth to a beautiful litter of puppies right here at the shelter. She was quickly moved into a foster home, where she proved to be a gentle, attentive, and devoted mom. All of her puppies have since been adopted, and now it’s finally Nina’s turn to find the loving home she deserves. Nina is a sensitive girl who can be nervous with loud noises and new environments, especially in a busy shelter setting. However, her time in foster care has done wonders for her. With a calm home, routine, and patient reassurance, Nina has begun to come out of her shell. She has grown more outgoing, her confidence is shining through more each day, and she has learned to seek comfort and connection from the people she trusts. She isn’t overly toy- or food-motivated, but she loves gentle affection and thrives in a low-traffic, peaceful household. Nina has also started participating in playgroups and has shown healthy, appropriate social behavior with other dogs. With Suki, she engaged in friendly, high-energy interaction. Suki tended to take more space and occasionally got on top of Nina, but after brief breaks, both girls continued playing appropriately and even shared a water bowl. With Choopy, Nina enjoyed a balanced 15–25 minute play session, taking turns chasing and being chased, mirroring each other’s movements, and keeping their open-mouth play well-matched and not too rough. She reads other dogs well and can enjoy respectful play with the right companions. After raising her puppies with love and growing so much during her time in foster care, Nina is ready for a patient, understanding family who will continue helping her blossom. She is a tender-hearted dog who just wants to feel safe, loved, and seen—now she’s hoping someone will choose her.
