Nimbus aka Yellow Collar's Story

Meet our lovable 10 week old puppy—a spirited, sturdy, black-and-tan girl with expressive tan eyebrows and a cheerful yellow collar. She's been growing in her foster home alongside her sister Hazelle, green-collared sibling, learning from two wise resident dogs, and soaking up affection from two devoted teenagers. With her friendly nature, curiosity, and playful spirit, she's quickly became the heart of her foster family.and yes for a short while we had her listed as a boy.

Nimbus' initial brave, sweet personality and playful energy has continued as she's grown. Along with her lovely siblings Luke, Tarra, Jet, Koper who are waiting for their matches and Hazelle, Nicky and Padme who are with their new families, she arrived at the shelter with their devoted mama, who cared for them with the help of the shelter staff and volunteers. She's settled in foster home to learn all about the world under the watchful eyes of large dog-experienced fosters. Keeping these little ones in pairs initiallyhelps them build confidence, learn good manners, and discover the joys of puppyhood together. Hazelle just moved in with her forevers and were excited to watch Nimbus spread her wings as the solo puppy. With each new day, this little shepherd is growing braver, smarter, and more affectionate—ready to bring endless happiness to her future forever family!

Just like their other littermates, these girls grasped outside pottying so well. They love toys, snuggling with people, and thriving with all the changes happening in their lives. They have the best sits.

Nimbus is always the first to dash outside for potty breaks, eager to explore every corner of the yard with her curious spirit. Calm, observant, and easy-going, she stands out for her independent streak just like Padme, yet the moment she met her foster human brothers, she melted right into their laps for cozy snuggles. Nimbus' a movie night expert, happily curling up for an evening of warmth and companionship with her people.

These sturdy pups have hearty appetites and an adventurous approach to life, embracing new experiences beyond the shelter. They're quick to pause and listen to every sound with curiosity, confidently navigate different surfaces, and scale rocks and steps with enthusiasm. Always eager to come when called, they delight in exploring new scents and discovering the world around them.

Happy, healthy, and brimming with bravery and intelligence, these puppies will bring endless joy and love to their future families.

We're so grateful for everyone's incredible response to our call for fosters! We're still reaching out, and would be absolutely thrilled if you could say yes to welcoming more pups from shelters overflowing with sweet shepherds in need.

Stay tuned for heartwarming updates on each pup's story! ShepHeroes's Adoption Policy
Our dogs are available to meet approved adopters through appointments and at various posted events throughout Northern California. Since each GSD we rescue has been let down by their previous caregivers, we are committed to ensuring that their second chance is a forever one. Our adoption application allows us to find the best possible match for them and for you. The decision to adopt a pet is an important one that we take seriously. Please take the time to read the questions and carefully complete the application. Please include full explanations with as much information as possible - this will help us with the review of your application If renting, your landlord's consent is required to proceed with your application. Our landlord permission form is embedded in the application and is required before your application can be processed. We primarily assist at-risk dogs and serve adopters in Northern California. We are currently focused in the following counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Marin, Monterey, Napa, Placer, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma and Yolo, and on a limited basis the Ft. Bragg area of Mendocino County and Lake Tahoe region of Washoe County, NV. Our area of coverage shifts based on volunteer resources. As an all-volunteer rescue, we may not respond as quickly as we would like. We appreciate your patience while we work through the adoption process. Our goal is to respond to you within a week of your application. 1. Submit Application We seek adopters with previous GSD or large breed experience for the best fit and prefer to adopt within our local geographic region. 2. Interview After submission, you'll receive an email indicating the status of your application and information on assignment to an adoption counselor (AC). 3. Home Check After your interview, your AC will arrange for your home visit (HV). All household members & resident dogs should attend that meeting. 4. Meet the Pet After your HV and once approved, you'll be able to meet potential matches. All household members & resident dogs should attend the meetings. 5.
