**WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF FOSTER HOMES** Homeward Bound Dog Rescue is an all volunteer rescue organization and all our dogs and puppies are in foster homes - we are not a shelter and do NOT have a facility where we house our dogs. Are you looking for a pretty little redhead who is smart with a lot of potential? Then you must be looking for me, hi, I'm Nikki. I'm about 1 year old and 20 pounds, just the perfect age and size. I'm originally from Kentucky where I was found as a stray. If you live an active life and want to teach a fur kid to share those activities with, I'm your girl. While I love to be active I also love attention and cuddling and oh, those ear rubs, they are the best. I am a busy body so if there is any activity in the house I am going to go and see what is going on. My first foster home had multiple dogs, and I loved playing and seeing what everyone was up to but it was too much stimulation for me. Now I'm the only fur kid in the house with mom and dad and this is a better life for me. An adult home with teenagers who want a best friend would be perfect for me. I am great at playing fetch!!! I love to run around outside. A nice sized fenced in yard is needed for me to release some energy when we aren't doing anything. When I'm on a leash I am full steam ahead and zig and zag. Yes, the humans say I need leash training. No invisible fence. No apartments. No runs or tie outs will work for me. I am a people girl so I'm happy to meet everyone including respectful kids. I'm full of kisses but I put in a few nibbles here and there. I'm working on my jumping, it's hard to contain my excitement when I'm so happy to meet someone. I did well with all the dogs in my previous home, so another pup in the home would be great but they need to have the same energy as me or I can be a nuisance. I need a proper introduction with any dog I meet. A dog park would not be the best place for me, I don't like to be rushed. I can be a vocal girl, I do like to talk and sing. You have got to hear my high notes!! I'm not a fan of the car so I will serenade you until we get to our destination. I've gotten better at being a door dasher and I don't mean the food delivery person so you have to be careful with open doors that I don't scoot out. Since I've attached myself to my foster family I want to be where they are. When I settle for a nap I like to snuggle up to someone and touch them. I love to chew on nylabones and Benebones to relax. You should see me kill the stuffed toys, shaking and grrrring at them. I have put a few small holes in the dog beds because I like to suck and nibble on them. It's a form of relaxation for me. Being in a quieter house has helped me a lot. For the most part I go outside and do my business. In my previous foster home there was always a puppy pad on the floor for the littles and I would use it too. I also had access to a dog door so if you have one of them, I'll use that. I really don't like the dark so I prefer you to be outside with me. I busted out of the crate a few times so my foster leaves me in the house alone when they go out and I have done excellent. I'm not looking to spend my days or nights alone waiting for you to come home. I would like a work from home family/person. My mom can attest I will keep you company and even share the chair with you while you work. I am hoping all my wishes come true..... someone who wants a loving girl and will love me forever. If that's you, let's make it happen. - Nikki Our adoption clinics are held one Saturday a month at our facility in Schenectady on John Street, located directly behind Boulevard Bowl (Erie Boulevard) from 10 am to 12 pm (directions are on our website). We require an approved application before we consider anyone for an adoption - so filling out the application is your first step. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email invitation to attend an adoption event. Different dogs and puppies go up for adoption EVERY WEEK so please feel free to visit the site and click on the Petfinder link for updates as we are adopting dogs out in between adoption events. Puppies and dogs up to 2 years old are $395. Dogs over 2 years old are $295. 100% of the adoption fees go to help us save more dogs.

Homeward Bound Dog Rescue of NY's Adoption Policy

Adoption Requirements Process: 1) Fill out an On-Line Adoption application. This should be completed with little or no omissions or incorrect data. Please understand that we cannot process your application if you do not take the time to fill one out properly. Please note that until we review your application and tell you that you are approved to adopt, you cannot adopt one of our dogs - the process does take a little while so it is good start early. For various reasons, we are no longer accepting "hand-apps." Pay particular attention to your references and Veterinarian, including phone numbers. You will need to let your vet know that they can release information to us. We will be calling them. Filling out an on-line application before you come to the Saturday clinic will speed up the process, and will go directly to the HB volunteers who manage applications. Please remember to click the "SUBMIT APPLICATION" button when completed. If you are not within 40 miles of the Albany Airport, please do not apply. This a distance we decided upon and if you disagree with our definition for out-of-the-area, please feel free to look for a dog in your community. 2) Interview: Qualified volunteer (we are all volunteers) interviews you, for numerous reasons. First, we want to find our dogs the best possible homes. Second, we want to match personalities as much as possible. (We really don't want to see adoptions fail). Third, we get a kick out of helping to complete families, and who knows, you might get convinced to become a volunteer as well. We require everyone in the household to be present for the interview process, especially young children. We need to see the interaction between the dog and everyone in the family, and for that reason we NEVER do surprise or gift adoptions. 3) Reference Check: See the first reason for the interview. 4) Home Visit: We will do a home visit if you have animals at home that we feel our dog needs to meet before adoption takes place. Sometimes personalities clash, and somebody does not like someone else. This is especially true if you have cats and we do not know how the dog you wish to adopt will react to cats. We will also do a home visit for any potential adopter who requests it or if we feel there is a situation at home that warrants one. We have replaced the home visit for many of our adopters, by our interview, as we feel it is thorough and tells us what we need to know. 5) Contract: Once you are approved we will meet to handle the paperwork at our Saturday clinic. Once the contract is completed and your adoption fee is paid (cash or check ONLY) your new family member is turned over. We then hand over or mail you copies of everything we have about your new dog (medical records particularly). 6) Follow Ups: You may hear from us!! We will try to send follow up emails to check out how things are going. 7) Also, please send us pictures of your new family member whenever possible. We love to see success stories, so please keep in touch. You are very welcome to come to a later clinic with your new family member and show them off. We also love to get Alumni pictures and stories from the new family to post.
