Nightwing's Story
Nightwing was found on the streets of San Antonio, Texas and brought to ACS (Animal Care Services). Unfortunately, San Antonio has a devastating homeless animal population and even Nightwing's big, happy smile couldn't save him from a sentence on the euthanasia list. The day before he was set to be euthanized, Jocelyn saw him and between that smile and the fact that he was described as a “play group ROCKSTAR,” he had to be a Red Fern boy.

Nightwing's San Antonio foster describes him as extra sweet and super gentle, happy, a very good pup, fun, loving, playful, still has a puppy-like personality, and loves to be with people. He learned 'sit' fast, loves treats and chews- very motivated by them, LOVES tug of war with another dog, enjoys the ball and all dog toys, and learned quickly to jump in car. He's living in a foster home with a dog and cat in a condo and goes to the dog park daily.

We keep all the names the animals come with because we know they might change when adopted and don't want to confuse them with multiple names changes. A quick Google search enlightened this uninformed author that Nightwing is Dick Grayson, a DC Comics superhero, the first and most famous Robin of Batman and Robin, and later the solo hero Nightwing. We think our Nightwing is indeed a superhero as well and he could be yours too!

Nightwing needs a lot of play time and to run and play with other dogs. He will play for a long time at dog park. He wrestles with pups his age and likes older puppies the best. He naps well, sleeps all night, eats well and drinks lots of water. Never seen any aggressive behavior! People love him! Every time someone greets him, adults and kids, he loves it and basks in the pets and attention. He's not a jumper but occasionally stretches up on to people for pets. He loves walks.

Watch him! He'll chew shoes, furniture legs and decorative pillows if bored. If not taken outside very early in the morning, he will have an accident but with frequent potty breaks, he is good to go!

Fixed? Yes

Good with other dogs? Very good

Cats? Good

Kids? Very good

Potty trained? Mostly- occasional accidents if not taken out often enough.

Crate trained? Not in his foster home but was in a kennel in the shelter.

Leash trained? Working on it! He likes to lock jaw on his leash and if you pull, he's goes into tug of war and you will NEVER get it away from him. Time and patience and he'll get it!

Could live in apartment? Only if taken out frequently. He's currently in a condo with no yard and must go out very early in the morning and frequently throughout the day. He might have just started potty training when he arrived in rescue, so give him some time.

Energy level? Medium to high

Ideal home? Someone who'll ensure he has lots of daily playtime and exercise- several hours daily over the whole day. He's yet to be left alone in his foster home because he cries when you're not in sight.

Nightwing is heading North from San Antonio, Texas to Colorado, arriving Friday, April 3. Put in your applications quick because if he goes to Jocelyn's house as a foster, he may never leave!

Red Fern Animal Rescue offers a two week foster to adopt trial in your home before finalizing the adoption to ensure the animal is the right fit for you, everyone in the home, human & animal, and vice versa.

Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado.
