Nieva's Story

Nieva is currently living and training with her handlers at Beaumont Correctional Center.

Through a partnership with the Virginia Department of Corrections, Pixie's Pen Pals (a program of FETCH a Cure) places homeless dogs in the care of incarcerated people for dedicated, individualized training and socialization guided by canine behavior specialists.

The bio below was provided by her handlers at Beaumont Correctional Center:

My name is Nieva! You can call me Nievea, Neva, or Niv, I answer to all three. I am a Pitt/Bully Mix who is full of love. I have a motherly attitude, I have had numerous litters of puppies. Also I am a cancer survivor, I am strong, I am roughly 50 pounds, and I am gentle as a kitten. I will bark and let you know that someone is at the door, I am not a toy guarder or food guarder. I get along great with all breeds of dogs. I love bully sticks, and I like to have my belly rubbed. I am around 6 years old. I have been trained on numerous commands, such as sit, down, wait, stay, leave it, come, stand, watch me, look, focus, go to mat, go to crate, and place. I would make a great addition to your home. Let's live together forever!

FETCH a Cure's Adoption Policy
Our staff and trainers review the information contained in the adoption application to ensure that the dogs are placed in homes best suited for their personalities and any special requirements. A home visit is required in order to ensure that your future canine companion is in a home suited for his needs. The application and home visit makes it easier for us to learn more about you so that we can help find the perfect match for your home! Our goal in this process is to ensure happiness and a forever home for our dogs and your family. While we work on approving your application, we will submit your information to the correctional center at which your future dog is housed. An adoption visit at the correctional center is required and pivotal to your ability to help your dog to transition between rescue program and forever home. The correctional center visits are only allowed during business hours on weekdays–our staff will help to plan the visit as far in advance as possible
