Nick's Story
Meet Nick! Nick is a male Chihuahua Dachshund mix, and we believe him to be about a year old.
Poor Nick has had a rough go at life lately. He came to HSHP as a stray caked in mud from the freezing rain. He was brought in alongside another dog who we assume is his mother. At first, Nick was absolutely terrified of everyone, and didn't want us to handle him. Given some time, though, he quickly warmed up and has proven to be a very affectionate and energetic little guy! Now that he's gotten used to us, Nick is go-go-go- and wants to constantly be on the move! He's also very loving, and his favorite activity is to jump up in your lap. He is still nervous around complete strangers, and just needs some extra patience until he gets used to you.
Nick appears to have no training what so ever, as he doesn't respond to commands and still have accidents inside. He will need a home that will be patient and kind to him while he learns his house manners. We also strongly recommend that Nick meet any pets in the home prior to adopting, as we haven't been able to find him a buddy here ta the shelter yet. Nick will not be a good fit for homes with small children that can't respect his boundaries.
Nick's finder said that they often some him running as a stray, and he was loose many times before they were able to catch him and bring him to us. Since he has a history of escaping, he will need a home with a secure yard to ensure he isn't allowed to roam again.
Once Nick warms up to you, he is an absolute baby! He LOVES to be held and cuddled! He also loves laying in his warm bed and snuggling in for the night. He just needs someone willing to open up their hearts and give him a chance! If you think Nick could be the perfect pooch for you, stop by and meet him today!
