This is Nelson Tarboro. He is a hound. He does Hound Things - like singing the song of his ancestors. He also has that hound stubbornness, and is not a dog you can try and push your will on in order to make him submit and obey you. Working with Nelson will be equals-or-nothing while you build that trust; when someone he didn't know tried to pressure him into a command, the situation ended in a bite. He doesn't respond well to forceful or overly authoritative training styles, and will immediately go on the defensive. When given the time to adjust and become comfortable, this big oaf is just happy to be with you whenever you go, be that around the house or out on a sniffari walk. With him being, y'know, a hound, that nose of his is excellent at sniffing out snacks. Because of that, keeping a close eye on him in the beginning will ensure he does not liberate your counters of whatever tasty delights they hold. Like bread. Daily life with Nelson is a lot of laughing at him trying to out-holler a nearby siren, reminding him that inside voices do, in fact, exist, and asking oneself why, of all the beasts out there, you've chosen hounds as a breed you love with your whole heart. And then he'll do something like lean all his weight on you, rest his chin on your shoulder, and fall asleep like there's nowhere else he'd rather be. If you know, you know.

Foster's Location: Frederica, DE

Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app)
