Nellie/Chanel In Foster's Story
January 2026 update:
🐕Some dogs run up to you and sell themselves in five seconds.
Nellie is not that dog.💝

Nellie asks for something rarer.
Time. Patience. A willingness to listen instead of rush.

She spent the first several months of her life growing up at MOAS, learning the world from behind kennel doors instead of couches and backyards. She became a MOAS dog last April, and in that time, she learned how to survive... not how to belong.

She has been adopted.
She has been returned.
And she is still a MOAS orphan... still hopeful, even when it's hard.

Nellie doesn't always make the best first impression. Big spaces overwhelm her. New people can be scary. Busy trails and sudden approaches can make her want to disappear. She's just a dog who learned early that the world can be too loud, but when she feels safe, she brings joy and life to her home.

Here's the part most people never get to see.

In a home, Nellie blooms.
She's playful and silly. She'll chase you around the couch now instead of shrinking away. She plants herself at your feet while you cook, nose deep in whatever you're doing -- completely unhelpful, completely devoted. She is curious about everything, joyful in small moments, and always ready with a comforting kiss of thanks and love.

She loves other dogs, especially ones who are playful and sweet. A confident but non-bossy canine friend would help her feel safe and brave, showing her the world isn't something she has to face alone.

Nellie is currently in a foster home - her first real taste of safety - but she can't stay there forever. And the thought of her returning to the shelter, after learning what love feels like, is heartbreaking. She will shutdown in the shelter. She will not make it out.

Nellie doesn't need a perfect home.
She needs a patient one.
Someone who understands that trust is built, not demanded.
Someone who won't judge her by the first five minutes but will stay long enough to see her whole heart.

Nellie may not shine instantly.
But give her time... and she will shine deeply.

If you are the kind of person who believes the quiet ones are worth waiting for, Nellie is waiting for you. 💛

Let us know you're interested in meeting Nellie by filling out an application here --> https://www.moaspets.com/adoptionap

August 2025 update
Nellie is a puppy who has spent her entire little life in "the system" -- one hundred, thirteen days of it. The last month has been the BEST of her little life. She's had a foster mom and a safe home and bonded with new canine buddies, but her foster mom can't keep her after July. Nellie has learned so much in a home:
🐾how to be brave in new places
🐾how to traverse stairs
🐾that people are often kind
🐾how to use the doggie door when she needs to potty!!
🐾how to be comfortable in a leash on a walk
Nellie is a ham! She is so funny and silly and will make you laugh, especially with her afternoon zoomies! Unfortunately Nellie is on her last few days before she has to go back to the shelter. She has thrived in foster care, finally feeling confident, and returning to the shelter will be really tough on this sweet girl.💔 She needs a foster takeover or adopter to save her from going back. She is timid with humans at first but WONDERFUL with other dogs. Surely your pup needs a playmate! Please consider fostering or adopting this sweet girl. Her brother, Cartier, is still in the shelter as well. They both have spent far too much of their lives there.

Chanel is a young, playful pup with a heart as big as her wagging tail. Friendly with both people and other dogs, she's a social butterfly who's always ready to make a new friend. Chanel loves squeaky toys, fetch sessions, and especially splashing around in the water -- the pool, a puddle, or a hose, she's all in! Her joyful energy and sweet nature make her the perfect companion for fun-filled adventures and cozy cuddle time alike. Please call the shelter at (706) 795-2868 to schedule a meet and greet.

Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter is a non-profit shelter serving over 720 square miles. We are open intake, meaning we can not turn away animals from either county we serve. Our shelter intakes double or triple it's capacity every month so it is essential we place animals quickly into adoptive homes. Since so many animals enter the shelter we often don't have enough volunteers to write an individual bio for each. Please feel free to call the shelter Wednesday-Sunday to inquire about the animal you are interested in. 706-795-2868.

Viewing and adoption hours at our shelter are Wednesday through Sunday from 12 PM to 5 PM.
All adoption fees include age-appropriate vaccinations, flea treatment, deworming, and spay or neuter, microchip, and adoption packet.
Fees:
Dogs over 6 months old: $100
Puppies under 6 months: $200.
Cats and Kittens are $75 ($65 without microchip).

For your convenience you can fill out an adoption application for any of our current residents at www.moaspets.com. Join us on Facebook at
https://www.facebook.com/moaspets. It's a great way to stay up to the minute on the furry 4 legged friends we have looking for a loving forever home.
We are located at:
1888 Colbert Danielsville Rd
Danielsville, GA 30633
706-795-2868

NOTE: Our adoptions are first come first served, simply filling out an application does not mean the animal will be held for you, you must come meet the animal in person in order to be considered for adoption.
If you rent you must bring your lease or a letter from your landlord stating you may adopt.
