Narwhal's Story

My name is Narwhal and I'm an Australian Shepherd and Treeing Walker Coonhound mix born in November 2022. I even had a DNA test to help figure out what breeds I may be mixed with and 12 breeds were detected, these were the two highest percentage ones. I was part of an unplanned litter and as much as my family would have loved to keep us all, that wasn't possible. I am a happy go lucky boy that is ready for adventures in the big world with my new family. I will require training with basic commands, potty training, and overall what it takes to be the best boy I can be. I have been adopted and returned due to not being a good fit for young children. When they run I like to run after them and can nip them as if I might be trying to herd them. Since being back at the shelter, I have been working with a dog trainer who has helped me accomplish so much. I now can sit, go on walks, and be apart of play groups. I've been told I'm a great introduction dog. I love to meet all dog friendly dogs. While I am waiting for my forever home, it's been great being able to make new friends and conquer things that make me a more confident dog. I still could benefit from additional training once I'm in my new home. Given a proper introduction I could live in a home with dog friendly dogs. I am neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and wormed for my new family.

Note: No children under 12 and selective with other pets.

Note: To adopt, you must live within approximately 100 miles of one of our adoption sites (Benld or Springfield IL), and be at least 18 years of age.
