Nanuq's Story

Meet our little polar bear, Nanuq

Husky mix/ Northern Designer Mutt| 12 weeks | Female | Estimated to be 50-70lbs | Good with: Dogs and kids | Foster to adopt program

Currently being fostered in Toronto

Background:

Nanuq’s journey started far north in Nunavut, where she was rescued by our amazing partners at K9 Advocates Manitoba. She was fostered with her brothers before hopping on a flight south and arriving at Sea Paws Rescue on January 4th. Her name, Nanuq, means polar bear in Inuktitut — a perfect fit for this fluffy northern girl with a big heart and an even bigger future.

Ideal Home:

Nanuq is a sweet, affectionate puppy with all the typical (and adorable!) puppy behaviours. She’s looking for a home committed to continuing her basic training, socialization, and setting her up for success as she grows.
Because she’s still teething, a home with children aged 8+ would be ideal. She would also thrive in a home with another dog, as she currently lives with a resident dog and loves having a canine buddy to play with.
Most importantly, Nanuq needs a home filled with patience, structure, and lots of love

Training & Activity:

Nanuq is a smart cookie! She has almost mastered potty training, is crate trained, and settles in her crate after just a few minutes. She already knows how to sit on command and understands what “no” means — impressive for such a young pup. As a growing puppy, she has medium energy, enjoys playtime, and balances it out with plenty of naps. Ongoing basic training will help her grow into the best girl she can be.

Summary:

Nanuq is a loving, playful, and intelligent northern pup with a heart as big as the Arctic. She’s off to a great start with training, loves other dogs, and will make a wonderful companion for an active, committed family ready for the joys (and work!) of puppyhood.

Foster-to-Adopt Program:

Nanuq is available through our foster-to-adopt program due to ongoing veterinary care.
This means:
- You will foster with the intent to adopt (not a trial)
- Nanuq remains under SPR’s care during this time
- She will not be publicly listed elsewhere
- The full adoption fee is paid upfront
- Once all medical care is complete, the adoption is finalized
This program allows you to bond with Nanuq while SPR continues to support her medical needs.

NOTE: All adoption applicants must be residents of Ontario, Canada to be considered.

Ready to give Nanuq the forever home she deserves?

Apply now: http://seapawsrescue.org/adoptionApplication.html

Sea Paws Rescue's Adoption Policy
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. All adult members of the household must attend the adoption interview. We prefer that applicants have lived at their current address for at least three months. This is to make sure that owners have had time to settle into their new surroundings, and provides stability for the new pup who themselves have already undergone multiple changes in a short time. Because young puppies require intensive training and care, we do not place puppies younger than 8 weeks of age in a home. Because of potential behavior/training concerns, we are very cautious when placing young pets in homes with children under the age of five. If applicants have another animal at home, they must introduce the animals properly. We want to make sure that their animal is happy with their selection and that the transition for both animals' will be relatively smooth. All adopters must take the animal to a veterinarian within one week of adoption as Sea Paws Rescue (SPR) does not screen for all diseases including, but not limited to, tick fever and heartworm. All further examinations and immunizations from the date of the adoption are at the adopter’s own expense. SPR makes no health guarantees or warranties. All adopters must understand that there will be an adjustment period and their pet may experience behavioural and/or health issues related to the change in environment. Adopters must seek professional assistance from a trainer and/or licensed veterinarian if they have concerns about issues related to the adjustment period. If at any time, for any reason, a SPR adopter decides not to keep their animal, they agree to return the animal back to a Sea Paws Rescue representative. Under no circumstance will the adopter surrender a SPR animal to a local shelter. In the event of a rehoming, no part of the adoption fee will be reimbursed.
