Nala's Story

This beautiful shepherd girl is equal parts brains, beauty, and puppy enthusiasm. Nala is confident, affectionate, and full of life - the kind of dog who wants to be right in the middle of whatever her people are doing. She's smart, curious, and eager to connect, with just the right balance of independence and clingy shepherd devotion.

Nala loves affection, enjoys being close to her people, and has that classic shepherd presence - observant, loyal, and always ready for the next adventure. She's still very much a puppy, which means she's learning, growing, and figuring out the world one exciting experience at a time.

HISTORY
Nala was likely dumped as a puppy, as she wandered into a local farm. She had a safe place with them for about 4-6 weeks before she was turned over to HART and despite all efforts, her original owners never came forward. Nala has been in HART's care since she was about 6 months old.

Nala is located in Kennewick, in Eastern Washington. We share information about our dogs in postings based in other cities to improve their chances of finding a great forever home. He is well worth a road trip, and we encourage you to come and meet her before you decide he should join your family!

SOCIALIZATION, TEMPERAMENT AND TRAINING
Nala is currently fostered with older kids/teens and another dog. She thoroughly enjoys having a canine playmate. Initially, she might need a slow introductions, but once she gets used to them and is comfortable, she wants to play all the time! While she is a young pup with a lot of energy, she also knows the value of a nice nap.

Nala prefers to get her energy out by playing with her canine housemate or running around the yard and considers leashes to be the enemy. We are sure that with time, consistency and a lot of patience, she can be leash trained, but it has not been something she has been exposed to regularly due to weather and other factors.

Nala has not spent any time around cats, and we are not sure how she would react to them. She is potty trained, crate trained, and has otherwise good house manners.

Nala is around 10 months old, which means she is officially entering the doggy teenage stage-also known as the "I forgot everything I've ever learned but I'm still very cute" phase. Think of it as her goofy middle school era. She may test boundaries, get distracted by a leaf blowing across the yard, and have opinions about things she didn't notice before. It's all normal, temporary, and honestly pretty hilarious. With consistency, patience, and fun training sessions, she'll grow right through it and come out the other side an amazing adult dog.

HEALTH STATUS
General info
Nala is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, sterilized, and dewormed. She appears to be in good health. Once full grown, she will likely be somewhere in the 50-70 lbs. range.

ADOPTION
The adoption fee for Nala is $425.
To apply to adopt Nala, please complete our online adoption application at https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HAWA/Dog, or email hearthfireART@gmail.com and request an adoption application form.

HART dogs live in foster homes, not in a kennel facility. To respect our fosters' privacy, we make our dogs available to meet adopters only after an adoption has been approved.

HART (Hearthfire Animal Rescue Team)'s Adoption Policy
All our pets are in private foster homes. HART does not have a facility. For this reason, we introduce pets to potential adopters only after the adoption application has been approved. Our process involves: # A detailed application form, which must be submitted electronically # An online background check # Reference checks (calls to your vet, landlord, and at least two personal references) # Interviews with all the adults in the home (and, if the pet is intended primarily as a child's companion, we talk with the child) # A home visit, conducted at our discretion by a member of HART or a trusted rescue colleague Most of our pets are located in the Tri-Cities (Kennewick/Richland/Pasco) in Eastern Washington, and we place pets only in homes within the Pacific Northwest. As needed we may arrange for a trusted member of our team to transport a pet to an adopter, at the adopter's expense. We do not ever release pets to a third party for transportation; we personally introduce every pet to their adopter. HART is a registered 501(c)3 charity. We depend on adoption fees and donations to continue serving our community. We do not have an office or facility, and our team is made up only of volunteers. Our entire income goes to helping animals.
