Nala's Story

Update: Nala came through her surgery beautifully, and is getting a pretty new bright colored cast every week. She's about halfway through her activity restriction phase, and it is eager to get out there and run, run, run, run. But meanwhile, she needs a family that can keep her to her restrictions while they bond with her. Please read on for Nala's story:
* * * * * * * * *
Pretty Nala came to us with a severely broken foreleg- both long bones were fractured. She had surgery 7/3/26 to pin them, and is on crate rest for 6-8 weeks. We're hoping a potential adopter in our area would be able to foster her in a quiet home during her convalescence.

From Nala's foster mom: "Currently fostering Nala and she has been a family favorite. She took right away to my five-year-old daughter and older dog. Nala is so gentle mannered, quiet, extremely well behaved, potty trained in a week, cuddle bug, easily goes in her cage or playpen very quiet in there. Gently plays with my older dog., understands no. And is very good about her broken leg. She has a couple more weeks left of healing. She would be such a good dog for a starter Family! One of the sweetest dogs we have ever had! Everyone that meets her instantly falls in love! She already had successful surgery and is recovering. The doctor sees no issues with her recovery. She should have a full recovery and a great leg.!

Nala is about 9 mo and weighs about 36 lbs. She is up to date on vaccines, screened for parasites, microchip, and we will spay her after she's fully recovered from her surgery. She is currently on crate rest through at least mid August.

For more information and an adoption application for this special sweetie, please email underdograilway@yahoo.com

Underdog Railway Rescue's Adoption Policy
For an adoption application, please email underdograilway@yahoo.com Our dogs are housed in private foster homes, and may be viewed at adoption events, or by appointment with an approved application. We do not have a shelter facilty. Please note: barring special circumstances, we limit our adoptions to the Chicago metro area. Under no circumstance will we ship a dog anywhere. We cannot hold dogs. We do not adopt pitbulls or other bully breeds to renters. This is due to the scarcity of bully-friendly rental housing, which all to often leads to relinquishment or abandonment of the dog. Shelters are overwhelmed with pitbulls left homeless for these reasons. If you have other dogs in your home, they must be spayed/neutered/UTD on vetting, barring a current and valid veterinarian exemption. Our base adoption fee is $390 (cash), and includes spay/neuter, microchipping, heartworm testing, deworming/parasite screening, and vaccinations for rabies, distemper/parvo, leptospirosis, and bordetella (kennel cough). Some of our dogs also require and are treated for extraordinary medical conditions such as dental decay, heartworm, orthopedic or oral surgery, malnutrition, infections, etc. Our dogs live in our homes, so we can provide temperament and behavior insights to help ensure a good fit with an adoptive family. Our foster-to-adopt program is basically a trial adoption, which allows approved applicants to host the dog for 1-2 weeks before committing to a permanent adoption. When the adoptado is complete, The adopter receives the dog's vetting records and microchip registration information, and the adaptation fee is due. We do not have a physical shelter. Our dogs may be seen at our scheduled adoption events, or by appointment. A completed application is required prior to any appointments. Volunteers welcome. Please consider fostering with us. You would be helping us save lives.
