Nahum's Story
Nahum is a 7 year-old, 94 lb. black Labrador Retriever with a big heart, a goofy sense of humor, and a deep belief that people exist primarily for love, snacks, and companionship. True to the meaning of his name — comfort — Nahum’s greatest joy is simply being near his humans.
He’s a classic Velcro Lab. If you’re walking from room to room, he’s right behind you. If you stop to cook, he’ll lean gently against your legs. If you sit down, well… you’ve just invited a cuddle. His foster family lovingly calls him a love sponge, and they’re not wrong.
Nahum has discovered that walks are one of life’s greatest pleasures. He’s currently on a successful weight-loss journey (already down 10 pounds — go Nahum!) and happily trots along for long strolls, soaking in the sights and smells. He walks well on a harness and gets very excited about meeting other dogs — sometimes very excited — so a confident, experienced dog owner would be a great match for his enthusiastic friendliness.
Toys are another of Nahum’s great passions. Balls of any kind? Yes. Stuffed toys? Absolutely. If a ball rolls under the couch, Nahum will sit perfectly still, stare intensely at the exact location, and politely let you know it’s time for a ball rescue mission. Once you understand his system, communication is crystal clear.
Nahum is house-trained, crate-trained, knows his basic commands, and has been an excellent house guest in foster care. He can sleep in a crate or on his own dog bed and settles in nicely once he feels secure. He’s healthy, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and enjoys car rides — especially when they end back at home with his people.
Because Nahum bonds deeply, he’d do best with:
• A securely fenced yard or mindful door management
• An experienced dog owner
• Older children (10+)
• A calm dog companion — or as the happily-spoiled only dog
Nahum is a big, affectionate, loyal Lab who is ready to make someone’s life better simply by being in it. If you’re looking for a devoted companion with a gentle soul, a playful spirit, and a talent for communicating toy emergencies, Nahum is ready to meet you. 💛 He's being fostered in Carmel, IN.
