Nacho's Story

🌮 Meet Nacho 🌮

Nacho is a 2 year old Chihuahua with a big personality, a tender heart, and a story that explains a lot about who he is today.

Nacho did not have an ideal beginning. He was significantly overfed, under exercised, and wore a shock collar intended for much larger dogs. Because of that early experience, he has a few quirks, including spinning when he’s excited or overstimulated. This behaviour is not aggression and not fear based. It appears to be a learned coping behaviour, and we are already seeing improvement as he continues to feel safe and settled.

Since coming into care, Nacho has decompressed beautifully. He shows relaxed, dog appropriate behaviour and is clearly gaining confidence. He warms up more quickly to women, though with patience and consistency he builds trust with everyone.

🚽 Potty expectations (honest and important)
Nacho is very reliable with pee pads and consistently uses them for urinating. At this time, he does not regularly pee outside.
Nacho will thrive in a home that understands potty perfection is not a requirement for love and that some dogs need accommodation rather than correction.

💛 A dog’s dog
One thing that truly defines Nacho is his love of other dogs. Walks are his favourite activity, and he is happiest when he’s near canine companions. He seeks out other dogs for comfort, play, and confidence, and we believe his ideal home will include another friendly, social dog. While he enjoys people, Nacho genuinely thrives with dog friends and takes a lot of emotional cues from them.
When left alone, Nacho may bark briefly at first but settles quickly and does not remain distressed.

Nacho is also on a gentle, appropriate weight loss journey and is already benefiting from regular walks and a healthier routine.

🏡 Nacho’s ideal home:
• Has at least one friendly, confident dog
• Is comfortable using pee pads long term
• Understands that some behaviours are communication, not “bad habits”
• Is patient, observant, and focused on management over correction
• Values companionship over perfection
Nacho is funny, endearing, deeply dog social, and absolutely deserving of a home that meets him where he is. With the right expectations and setup, he will be a loyal, charming little shadow.

💛 What’s included in your adoption fee?
At Myrtle Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, we’re committed to ethical rescue and lifelong support. Every dog adopted from us comes with:
✅ Core vaccines
✅ Rabies vaccine (age dependent)
✅ 4DX test for heartworm & tick borne diseases (age dependent)
✅ Flea, tick & heartworm prevention
✅ Parasite treatment
✅ Dental surgery if recommended by our veterinary partners (for adult/senior dogs)
✅ A session with a positive reinforcement trainer (optional)
✅ Ongoing support from our team
✅ Microchip
✅ One month of Trupanion coverage

🐶 Adoption Fee: $500

📩 Apply to adopt Nacho:
https://form.jotform.com/243494963032258

Visit us:
https://www.facebook.com/share/1N1gNnbxo9/

#MyrtleAnimalRescue #AdoptNacho #ChihuahuaLife #RescueDogJourney #SecondhandSouls #DogFriendlyDog #StThomasOntario #RescueDogsOfOntario
