Murphy is an 18 month old male border collie mix puppy who happens to be a super genius. A young dog by day, by night, Murphy solves deep mysteries of the universe and is working on a unified field theory. This dog is super smart and super sweet. He loves other dogs and all people. Murphy is a great dog park dog park kinda guy and had made friends with all kinds of canine buddies. He chases cats. Hey - everyone has to have a hobby. Murphy is hamster-sized by our standards and he weighs in at a whopping 33 pounds. This is as big as he will be, barring a slide into weight gain down the road. Murphy has excellent manners, is good on a leash and is very respectful in the home. He is moderate energy, but requires mental exercise to keep him happy. Do not adopt a smart dog if you aren't prepared to deal with them. A typical dog is just happy you are home. A smart dog is ticked you were 20 minutes late. This dog needs something to keep his very sharp mind occupied, so plan accordingly. Puppies can only "hold it" for one hour per month of age (ex. a 4 month old puppy can only go 4 hours without a potty break).<br><b>2.)</b> Crate training until the puppy is at least one year old, to prevent chewing on inappropriate things when you can't supervise.<br><b>3.)</b> Socialization: The more positive and varying experiences as a puppy the better, both in and out of your home.<br><b>4.)</b> Puppy behavior and life stages are equivalent to a human toddler. It takes at least a full year to have a calmer, well adjusted dog. Patience is required and when your dog's behavior is a positive experience for you and those around you, your patience will be rewarded tenfold, for years to come.<br>Please do not consider adopting a puppy if you have not thoroughly thought through the pros and cons of having one. So many people end up returning them after 3-5 months because they didn't realize the amount of work involved in raising a puppy.<br>Patience, appropriate toys, socialization, and obedience training are all musts.
