Ms Blue's Story

Ms. Blue is a five year old female Shar Pei with a soft blue grey coat, a serious set of wrinkles, and no idea at all how dignified she looks.
She came to us as an owner surrender, so we know something about the life she had before. She belonged to an elderly woman who could no longer care for her, which means Ms. Blue has never known anything but a good home, and it shows in everything she does. She is house broken, spayed, and microchipped. She walks into a room, greets whoever is standing in it, and settles. Her first day at the shelter did not rattle her, and she likes every person she meets.
For a dog who just lost the only person she has ever had, she is remarkably easy company. There is no unlearning to do with her and no bad habits to undo. She asks for a soft place to land and people who want her around, and that is about the whole list. She has spent her whole life keeping one person company and she would like to do it again.
A few honest things before you apply. Time alone is what she handles worst. After five years beside someone who was home all day, a home where she would be on her own for long stretches is not going to work for her, and a crate is not a useful tool for her right now either. What she needs is people around. We are also looking for a home with previous Shar Pei experience. The breed comes with its own eye, skin, and temperament considerations, and we want her going home with someone who already knows them.
Ms. Blue can share a home with another dog, as long as it is a dog who gives her space when she asks for it. A calm housemate who does his own thing suits her. A dog who wants a constant playmate is not the right fit. She has not been around cats or children that we know of, so we cannot tell you how she would do living with either.
We ask that an application be approved before a meet and greet is scheduled. Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
