Mr. Wilson's Story

Mr. Wilson came to us from a local shelter who found him as an unclaimed stray. It was later discovered that he had in fact been owned by the same family since puppyhood, but due to changes and instability in their home over the past few years, his in home care declined. The shelter unfortunately didn't have the resources to address his excessive weight and cherry eye ahead of adoption, so he came into our care!

He is currently on a big weight loss journey, as he came to us at a whopping 55lbs! He has been making fantastic progress and has already lost 13lbs and counting! Mr. Wilson’s nose takes him to where the food is so it’s important that he does not have access to open bags of food, human meals, if eaten on the couch, or open garbage bins. While he is very food motivated, he has not displayed any resource guarding in his foster home.

Mr. Wilson has been working on basic training in his foster home and has been doing very well! He knows a few basic commands, is crate and house trained, and is working on his leash manners.

He is good with dogs, cats and people, but has not been tested with kids at this time.

Mr. Wilson is currently working on his cooperative care with his foster mom. He does not like getting his ears cleaned or his nails done and will growl/use his mouth to show his discomfort in those situations. Because of this, we are muzzle training him to ensure that between his cooperative care training and muzzle training, Mr. Wilson, his future humans and any professionals, are safe and comfortable!
