Meet Mr. Moose — A Very Special Little Guy <br/><br/>When Moose was found hiding underneath a vehicle, he was scared of the world and didn't know who he could trust. He was covered in painful mats, suffering from a severe flea infestation, and had another big challenge ahead of him—severe luxating patellas, or “slipping kneecaps,” in both back legs.<br/><br/>Moose had corrective surgery on both knees at VRCCO in Bend, Oregon, with an orthopedic specialist. He is now fully healed, and the little dog who once hid from the world is slowly discovering that life can actually be pretty wonderful.<br/><br/>And Moose is learning to be a dog.<br/><br/>He loves playing with his foster sister, Clover, and watching the two of them together is one of the sweetest parts of his journey. He has discovered that squeaky toys are lots of fun, and after playtime, he is perfectly happy curling up on the couch with his people. There is nothing Moose enjoys more than being close to the humans he has learned to trust.<br/><br/>Moose can be shy at first. New people, new places, and new experiences can still be a lot for him. He isn't going to be the dog who immediately runs up to a stranger with his tail wagging. He needs time. But give him patience, consistency, and a little understanding, and you'll get to see the sweet, playful personality hiding underneath that initial shyness.<br/><br/>Moose needs a quiet, calm, adult-only home where his family will allow him to settle in at his own pace. His adopters will need to be committed to continuing his training and attending training classes with him to help build his confidence and strengthen the bond between them.<br/><br/>He understands that outside is where he should potty, although he can still have an occasional accident while adjusting to a new home. Patience and consistency will be important.<br/><br/>Safety is especially important for Moose. When he first goes home, he will need to go outside on leash every time, even in a securely fenced yard. A new environment can be frightening, and if Moose sees an opportunity to run, he may take it. He needs time to learn that his new home is safe, that his people are his people, and that he doesn't need to be afraid anymore.<br/><br/>Moose isn't looking for a perfect person or a perfect home.<br/><br/>He's looking for someone who understands that trust takes time and that the best part of adopting a dog like Moose is getting to watch him become more confident right in front of you.<br/><br/>The dog who once hid under a vehicle now plays with his foster sister.
