Moon's Story
A059047 Moon; neutered male Alaskan Husky Mix; approx. 10 months old; 71.4 pounds
Contact : Calaveras County Animal Services (209)754-6509
or animal@calaverascounty.gov

We understand, shelter friends, that not everyone loves a Husky. They can be... A Lot. Often very vocal (can we get an AWOOO!), wicked smart, Houdini escapists, independently minded, big shedders; not everyone can happily bring one of these gorgeous animals into their lives.

Moon and his brother Whopper (posted separately), however, have quite a number of appealing traits that might interest someone who admires the breed but is on the fence about Husky ownership.

You see, both Moon and Whopper are complete and total love bugs—relatively quiet, even. Moon would like to sit on your lap for cuddles, please. All people are his friends. He has been delighted to greet every single dog he's met at the shelter and has had plenty of joyful playdates with other dogs, playing chase and friendly wrasslin' games with new buddies.

Both Moon and Whopper love water, frequently jumping into our little pools and sometimes laying right down, ker-splash, for a nice soak. They are good on leash and will sit nicely for treats.

Moon is a handsome boy, with his warm amber eyes and striking facial markings. He's the brother who is more pure white and black to Whopper's more chocolatey coloring. We couldn't tell you why their ears didn't get the full, upright Husky deployment, but we do love how they bounce!

At 10 months, Moon and his brother Whopper are still sweetly goofy pups, though they look all grown up. They're both volunteer favorites with their open, youthful sweetness no matter what is going on around them. We have never seen them act in a reactionary manner toward any other dog.

Moon and Whopper keep their inner kennel tidy, even though the two are housed together in one kennel (have you heard we currently have 40 dogs crammed into a facility that is equipped to handle 24?!). Though we can't make promises, we'd guess they will be easy to housetrain.

Moon and Whopper came into the shelter after having unfortunately not been properly contained, running around barking and annoying neighbors. A wish to run free might be the most Huskyish thing about these guys, really. A home with adequate fencing will be best.

Please note that these siblings will not be adopted together, per county policy regarding littermate syndrome.

Moon is neutered and can go home with you right away.

We do not have info on his attitude toward cats at this time.

As always, a meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Check out Animal Services’ Fee Flexibility Program:
* Any animal that has been available for adoption for more than 15 days, the overall fee for the adoption will be 50% OFF. (Please note that the stray/wait period does NOT count toward the 15 days.)
* Overpopulation: We are limited to 21 dog kennels and 34 cat cages. When either of these get to 80% full or above, the total adoption fee will be 50% OFF.
* The 55-5-5 program: Any adopter over 55 years old adopting any pet over 5 years old will pay a total adoption fee of $5.00.
