Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.

Monty, 3 year 8 month old, neutered male, pit bull/American bully mix, 59 pounds. Monty is in TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up!

He was saved from a shelter in San Antonio and has been through so much during his short life - he was found on running the streets underweight, with patchy hair and unsocialized around other dogs. Thanks to his foster instilling lots of foundational work, Monty has proven the resilience of a dog.

Monty is your standard bully breed - lots of energy and a high play drive. He is neutral to other dogs when first introduced but warms up and really enjoys rough housing and wrestling. He would do best with a submissive pup as he can be rather bossy when it comes to play, but he is confident enough in himself to not require a canine sibling. He's been around male and female dogs and never shown any signs of aggression, but we do believe he’d do best as your one and only pup.

Monty will require an active home where he will get physical exercise - not just walks but *play* time and mental stimulation - whether that be through training or "brain" games. He really values food and tug, and these have made training more rewarding for him & his foster. He knows sit, touch, place and off, as well as what a 'time out' means (calming down so play can resume). While not a formal heel, Monty knows how to loose leash walk next to you, pulling minimally. Monty responds very well to mild correction and positive reinforcement, so we don't think "formal" training is required to achieve positive behaviors.

Monty has been around the foster's neighbors' kids (ages 3 and 5yrs) and did well. While they were jumping on the trampoline and having fun, Monty looked to his foster for guidance on how to proceed. We typically recommend home with kids over the age of 10yrs, or those who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues. With proper supervision to ensure he doesn't get too animated, we believe Monty can safely be around small children. We have no history with cats.

Monty is fully house trained and has not had any accidents in the home. He is crated when unable to be supervised and now enjoys his kennel, thanks in large part to his foster creating positive associations with the space. Monty should be fed away from other animals as he does tend to resource guard food. He allows his person to handle or remove food but he does not like to share. As a rule of his foster, toys are not left loose in communal spaces. Monty does need a good fence, he can jump anything under 5' and will push under a fence if not secured.

Like most bully breeds, Monty is very people-oriented and loves human interaction. Overall he is pretty chill but would thrive with a breed experienced adopter willing to put in the time to provide structure and routine, enforce boundaries and additional training. He is very eager to please and catches on quickly.

Anyone should be ecstatic to add this guy to their home and the sky is the limit with him! He has the sweetest demeanor and clearly the most perfect set of ears either side of the Mississippi.

***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***

Interested in applying to adopt him?
