He is currently fostered in St Jacobs ON Monty is a 1.5-year-old bundle of joy who is ready to bring a whole lot of love (and zoomie energy) to his forever home. If you’re looking for a dog who truly wears his heart on his sleeve (and his tail), Monty is your guy! He joined our rescue as an unclaimed stray from a rural shelter, very emaciated and with frostbitten ears and spots on his body. Monty is now thriving in his foster home where he has gained weight and muscle and his skin is nicely healed with no long term damage. Personality & Temperament Monty is the definition of "happy-go-lucky." He is an incredibly loving, social butterfly who hasn't met a stranger he doesn't like. Whether it's meeting new people at home or out on the town, Monty greets everyone with enthusiasm. He is very easily handled and has no issues with having his ears, paws, or tail touched—he’s just happy to have the attention! The Social Butterfly Dogs: Monty is a total fan of other dogs! He is friendly with every pup he’s met so far. He’s happy to live with a canine sibling, but he is a bit of a "food thief," so he’ll need a family that can supervise meal times to make sure he doesn't help himself to his friend's dinner. Cats: While he’s only had a brief meeting with a cat at the vet, he showed no aggression. Because of his playful nature, he very likely would chase cats but might be ok in a home with a "dog-savvy" cat who doesn't mind a curious roommate if he has another playful canine companion to focus on. People: Monty is a shadow dog. He loves his people deeply and thrives on companionship. Training & Routine Monty is a smart cookie and highly food-motivated, which makes training fun! Skills: He has mastered "Sit" and is currently working on expanding his repertoire of commands. Leash Life: He is a dream on a leash! No pulling or fussing—just a great walking partner. Potty Training: Monty is a "work in progress" but a total star. He went from 5+ accidents a day down to just one (or zero!). As long as he’s let out every couple of hours, he’s golden. He just needs a patient family willing to continue setting him up for success with frequent outings throughout each day Crate Training: He is crate trained and settles down quickly after a few initial yelps. He spends his nights tucked in his crate with his favorite bed. Ideal Home Monty’s biggest hurdle is missing his people while they are away. He gets very attached to his favorite human and finds it hard to settle when they are gone. Because of this, Monty’s dream home would include: A Home-Body: Someone who works from home or is only gone for short periods. The "Apple of Your Eye" Treatment: He wants to be the center of your world! but also requires someone committed to continuing his training and establishing routines to set him up for success as a great canine companion A Secure Space: He loves his backyard play sessions every two hours. Nutrition: Monty is thriving on a raw diet (chicken/beef) with supplements (pumpkin, omega-3, and probiotics) and would love to keep his coat shiny and his tummy happy on this regimen. Feeding a raw diet is NOT mandatory in his new home, we're happy to discuss high quality kibble/wet food alternatives of course. Is Monty the missing piece to your family puzzle? Note: Monty travels like a pro in his crate with no motion sickness, so he’s ready for any adventure you have planned! NOTES: Inground pools MUST be fully/securely fenced Older dog savvy children due to his size and energy Doggy doors are not acceptable Mandatory training registration with an approved positive method training school will be required to set everyone up for success. Lifelong Commitment: Monty is seeking a forever home able to meet his needs for the lifelong journey ahead. *Based on his life expectancy of up to 20yrs, he is not a suitable match for older seniors. Our goal for every dog is to be able to live a full active life in their forever home without ever having to be rehomed or having their needs neglected. Hobo Haven Pet Rescue's Adoption Policy

Hobo Haven Rescue is located in St Jacobs Ontario. Our foster families are within 45 mins of our location. Adoption fees vary depending on the age of the dogs and medical expenses incurred. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, 4DX & blood testing, deworming, dentals if needed, medical treatment or surgery for any concerns, and parasite treatment as needed. For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of: Adoption Application Instructions Please read the following carefully before beginning your application. Our Screening Process: Step-by-Step Please only apply if you are willing to complete every step of this process. 1. Fill in the Canine Adoption Questionnaire below https://hobohavenrescue.ca/dog-adoption-application Form Completion: All questions must be answered for the form to submit. If a question or date does not apply to you, simply enter "N/A." 2. Veterinary Quality of Care Check We require a history of how your past or current pets were cared for. These files are handled in complete confidence. Once reviewed, they are immediately destroyed. Action: If we feel you are a match we will reach out and ask you to contact your vet clinic and ask them to forward a copy of your pet’s medical history to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com. 2. Virtual Home Inspection & Interview If the vet check is successful, we will schedule a Zoom home inspection and interview. Requirements: All household members must be present. Format: This must take place during daylight hours using a mobile device so you can show us both your indoor and outdoor living areas. 3. In-Person "Meet and Greet" If the Zoom inspection is approved, we will schedule an in-person meeting in St. Jacobs. If the zoom inspection goes well, our next steps would be 1) an in person meeting with yourselves, your dogs, myself (Chris-Founder/President of Hobo Haven Rescue) and the dog/their foster family in St Jacobs to of course meet in person and see if everyone feels it is a good match Weather permitting we do have a fully secure fenced in area for dog intros and less formal meetings 4. Training Commitment For most of our dogs, we require proof of registration with an approved, positive-method trainer before the adoption is finalized. This ensures a smooth transition and long-term success. 5. Final Adoption Meeting Once proof of training registration is received, we will then coordinate a second and final meeting in St. Jacobs to complete the adoption! A Note to Applicants: We realize our process is thorough and may seem intimidating. However, these dogs rely on us to be their advocates. Our goal is to ensure every dog finds an ideal match and a forever home where they will receive the highest quality of care. Hobo Haven is based in St. Jacobs, Ontario. We do not export or adopt to families outside of Ontario.
