Monroe's Story

Dear Future Family,

My name is Monroe!! If you're looking for a gentle, loyal best friend, I just might be your guy. I'm a 65-pound sweetheart from Alabama with a soft heart and an even softer spot for snuggles and belly rubs.

My favorite things in life are pretty simple: curling up on the couch with my humans, playing with toys, snuggling in bed, belly scratches in the morning, car rides, and hearing that I'm a "good boy." I do great with other dogs, and even think cats are okay too, and more than anything, I love simply being with my people. Wherever you go, I'll happily follow -- my foster mom says I'm her shadow!

I'm a calm, low-key kind of guy. I'm not looking to run marathons -- I'd much rather spend the day snoozing nearby while you work, chewing on a toy on the couch, or keeping you company around the house. When my foster parents come home from work, it's truly the best part of my day!!

I'm fully house-trained and very well-behaved in the home. At night, I sleep nicely in my crate with no issues as long as I can see my humans nearby. But if you let me, I'd be very happy snuggling up in bed with you instead -- that's kind of my dream!

One thing I've learned about myself is that I actually do much better left out when you're away instead of being crated. Give me a comfy couch, turn on some cartoons, and I'll happily nap the day away until you come home.

I am shy and fearful with strangers, especially men, and I do best with slow, quiet introductions and patient people who understand that trust takes time for me. Right now, I'm learning that not all strangers are scary, that my humans always come back, and that men can be safe too. Once I feel secure, though, my sweet personality shines through beautifully.

At the end of the day, I'm really just a loving boy who wants to feel safe, spend time with my people, and stay close to the ones I love. I'm easy to please -- all I really want is kindness, patience, a cozy place to nap, and someone to love. Oh yeah, and some treats too!

If you're willing to go slow with me at first, I promise I'll give you the most loyal companionship for life in return.

Love,
Monroe

--------------------------------------------

Monroe was heartworm positive and has completed his treatment. He received a preliminary negative result on a microfilaria test but is awaiting a negative test result to a heartworm test 9 months after treatment per our vets recommendations. He no longer needs to be on exercise restrictions. Monroe will need continued use of monthly heartworm prevention. These medical needs will be the responsibility of the adopter.

All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption.

Please note that the majority of our dogs in rescue are from shelters where they have been found as strays or abandoned. Their breed description is based on our very best educated guess based on physical characteristics and their dispositions. If they came to our rescue as an owner surrender, the breed description will be listed as provided by the previous owner.

Adoption Fee - $400

To apply for this pup, please submit an Adoption Application at http://warriordogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-application/
