Monday's Story
Monday is a 3.5 year old Heeler Mix. Monday came in on a Monday, and she never left. She, unfortunately, was abandoned. Unwanted. Unloved. Unappreciated. Misunderstood. At PAWS, she has not only received the love and care she deserves, but she has learned how to: walk on a leash, play with kiddos, ride in the car, and "sit." Monday is extremely high-energy, but this is likely due to a combination of being a working breed AND being locked up in a kennel with said energy becoming pent up. Our staff and volunteers get her out into the yard as much as possible, but Monday needs consistent activity, and even a job to do in order to combat/exhaust/satisfy her energy levels/needs. Monday will need continued training to learn manners and discipline. Exercise does make her a lot more receptive to direction. She needs a home WITHOUT cats, and preferably no other dogs. Or she would need to be in a home with someone patient enough to help her SLOWLY become accustomed to living with another dog. She is very instinctually protective and territorial, but this is not her fault. She just needs time, patience, and the right kind of person/household willing to put in the work to help her find her way. Monday loves to play in water. Sprinklers, hoses, pools, etc. She loves water. She loves to play fetch. She loves to jump on you and shower you with kisses. Monday is great with older children. She is incredibly people-friendly and gets the zoomies with excitement when shown attention. She is truly such a sweet girl with so much to offer, but sadly she is overlooked daily and incredibly misunderstood. Monday is somewhat kennel reactive - meaning, she tends to jump at the kennel and bark intensely when people walk by. This usually elicits a negative reaction with people coming by to look at the dogs for potential adoptees. This is not an indication whatsoever of her true character. It is something to consider if and when visiting PAWS and seeing Monday. She is a sweetheart with a LOT of energy and no consistent outlet for it. Monday is heartworm negative, spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. She is ready to roam and be loved unconditionally.
